The Elder Scrolls Forums _ Elder Scrolls Lore _ RP: Morning Star Parade

Posted by: Sheogorath Jan 23 2005, 01:43 AM

Hello, and welcome to our Elder Scrolls Role Playing threads, where we adventure and socialize in the vibrant land of Tamriel.

Before we begin, we'd like to clarify a few things:

This is an 'open roleplay' and everyone is encouraged to join in at any time!

'Open' roleplay does not mean 'unorganized' or 'limitless', however. The events in this story are usually planned, and if something BIG happens, you can be certain that it is the result of much discussion between players, usually in the mIRC chat (#Loranna_RP). This is not just a bunch of disorganized individuals doing what they think would be fun for their character at the time.

So, while everyone is welcome to join in, they are NOT welcome to jump in and do big, world-changing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST. Let me be very clear about what cannot be done without permission:

1:
Any action that effects another person's character, for ill or good. Although most people realize they can't harm another person's character without permission, many don't realize that you can't HELP another character without permission, either. Many characters have flaws for a reason. Don't go healing, saving, or otherwise fixing another character without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the player involved.

2:
Any event that would drastically change things that have been done to the world, whether the change is physical (rebuilding destroyed locations), political (converting a population to a new cause), military (killing off all the badguys) or anything else. Almost every situation, good or bad, that exists in the RP was done for some reason. Don't go changing or fixing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the group.

Everyone who is involved in the RP is welcome in the mIRC chat channel #Loranna_RP. If you have a plot idea then you are encouraged to go there and discuss it. If you cannot get on the channel for some reason, or if the player whos character you would affect with your plan is not there, then PM them using this board's PM function. That's what it's there for.

For information on reaching #Loranna_RP via Mirc or Chatspike, look Here.

Not following the above advice will only result in one thing: your post is likely to be completely ignored by everyone as if it did not happen. This is obvously not good for anyone, so please, discuss major events before doing them.

Remember: Secret plans and surprises are seldom fun for anyone else. Before they're revealed they're boring, because nobody knows about them, and afterwards they're just annoying, because nobody knew about them.

Thank you, and have fun!

Summary

Lord Dres Jazbet is in Gnaar Mok with the rest of the group, waiting for the ship, which is just now coming in, to take them to his estate on the mainland. The Khajiit was blinded in the coming of Azura at Vivec, but his latent skill at precongition, seeing visions of likely futures, has come to him. He had a vision of a fire and Aricyn burning to death, which fortunately came to him in time that that future did not come to pass.

Elysana, the Queen of Wayrest, is on a ship, now skirting the northern part of Vvardenfell, a day’s journey to Skyrim. On board with her are twenty of her most trusted soldiers, including the only survivor of her original trip to Morrowind, the battlemage Herwyn. Also on board is the playwright Baloth-Kul, who she has agreed to patronize, pending some changes to his newest play about a stupid, flatulent King Smellseth. The rest of her army is in Sheogorad. A fleet of ships are leaving Wayrest to pick them up and take them home.

Bosriel, the little dark-haired girl, the Void Vampire, is in the Void, alone, staring in the walls of Ebonheart. She has seen Lliryth, Helseth’s mystic, doing research and examing the mysterious Aldmer/Dwemeri artifact, and her red eyes shine at the sight of it.

Summary
Reichi is in Gnaar Mok with the Other, waiting for a boat to arrive.

Raddin the Wolf, while he has set out to kill Reichi, won't be appearing in this RP. Wouldn't make much sense for him to find Reichi that quickly anyways. Riding all the way to Morrowind, then tacing him would be a chore.

'specially considering the water-walking from Ald Sotha and the teleportations... biggrin.gif

Summary:

Latius Maltne, Buoyant Armiger, is helping all arrive safely at the destination. He has a staked interest in Loranna because some time ago the now dead Archcanon ordered him to protect her. Since the party arrived at Telasero, he has simply helped to defeat any enemies including Azurites, Bandits, and assasins. Unaware of the interesting events with the void rangers, Maltne spent the past few hours coordinating a strategy for his soldiers to combat the followers of Azura and perhaps Helseth too. Those Armigers who have helped to escort the party will remain on Vvanderfell, but Maltne will still continue on - to whatever fate.

Summary for Loranna:

Loranna had accidentally used Ciel's real name in front of witnesses when the party was heading to Gnaar Mok and spent a fair bit of time castigating herself. At the suggestion of Tris and Arynel, she is trying to simply relax and start regaining her strength rather than sit around mentally itemizing the various ways she lacks any sense whatever.

OOC: For information on reaching #Loranna_RP via Mirc or Chatspike, look http://sekkairc.freewebpage.org/.

===

Loranna walks over to Jazbet, humming a little to let him hear her approach more easily. She reaches out to take his hand in hers once more.

" ... Almost there ..." she says, smiling a little; her tone sounds both hopeful and hesitant, and her touch is warm.

Posted by: Teleran Jan 23 2005, 03:33 AM

Teleran is with the main group listening to the conversations of anyone who happens to be nearby. He has been fiddling with his new "arm," practicing moving it so that it appears to be natural.

'The disappearance of Aynel and Tris when Tris punched at Arynel was odd, but, well, everyone seems to have their secrets around here. I'll have to ask them about that sometime.

'Also, when Lor mentioned a Ciel one of our party looked a bit worried, but he seemed in good cheer later, so it's probably nothing. Can't see him at the moment, I wonder where he went.

'One of the buildings in Gnaar Mok looks like it was set ablaze recently I wonder what happene there.' he thinks to himself.

Dagoth stood motionless, taking in the few things that he could in such a place. He quickly bored of it, and had the need to find out how Loranna and Jazbet were doing.

'Loranna....' He made his way into her mind slowly as to not make her go into shock, considering she was still getting used to the lack of telepathy. 'You holding up over there love?'

Dagoth can hear a fair bit of self-recrimition in Loranna's thoughts, but her tone becomes a little lighter when she speaks.

... Well, it's official; I'm about as smart as a three year old right now, she says, ... but otherwise, I think I'm doing okay. Just want to sit down and rest without having things blow up or burn down or try to poke us full of holes for a little bit, is all ...

Heh, listen to me ... I need to learn how to relax, she muses.

Dagoth frowns a bit. 'Just calm down dear... the torment is almost over. At least I hope it is... anyway....' He says this giving Loranna a quick mental squeeze, but not enough to get either of them lost in it.

Loranna smiles a little.

The torment ... like life I think, doesn't ever truly end, she says, her tone reflective. But we're coming to a lull, I hope, one in which we can rest - and I can start growing up again, and do it right this time. Then I can start working on fulfilling my promise ...

But first, rest - and time with loved ones.

Don't forget to help yourself too, Loranna says gently. We all have to adjust to life now, having gone through all this. You, me, Jazbet, Tris and Ciel, Allie and Arynel even ... everyone.

... We'll be okay; we're hurt, but we'll be okay. If defying Azura couldn't destroy us then we can live through most anything.

Loranna pauses and ducks a little. Thank you for being here, she says, her thoughts sounding a touch embarrassed. Heh; doing it again, speaking on impulse and forgetting details that I should be catching. I must have drove Mista to distraction after all.

'If adjust I must, then I will try. Hehe, and that is just one thing you will grow out of... eventually. Until then, it is just a part of who you are... minus the useful mind powers that Azura gave you.'

Dagoth felt himself get a bit aggravated when he himself mentioned Azura. 'Can't believe we ever trusted that self serving.... *mumbles*'

Loranna tries to embrace Dagoth's thoughts, ignoring the sensation of being 'armless' as she does so.

Dear ... Azura is Azura; there's no point in getting angry at her for having acted according to her nature, she tells him. We were foolish for thinking she was anything but what she is, that's all. We know better now ...

... Allie said something earlier I think; Azura is a necessary demon. Bad as she may seem to be now because of what's happened, she's part of the way things are. Just respect that, and leave her to Moonshadow where she belongs; there's no point in hating her.

Loranna's private thoughts return to her dream from before, but she keeps those musings to herself.

Dagoth can sense her attempts, and smiles sadly in his head. 'Sometimes emotions can't be controlled... but I guess I should be thankful. Without her, I would never have met you... and I would still be an emotionless beast. Cold and devoid of anything worth having.' He says this with both happiness, and gravity. Hard to blend, but possible in his case.

Welcome to the new dawn, dear, Loranna says with a weak smile.

... Just don't try to look too far into the pretty colors; some thnigs aren't worth pursuing deeper.

Dagoth ran out of words, so just held Loranna in his thoughts for alittle while, humming a bit...

Jazbet squeezed Loranna's hand and pointed out to sea. On the horizon there was the boat, on course to come into the harbor at Gnaar Mok in but a few minutes.

'The ship is coming in, isn't it?' the Khajiit asked. 'I hope you'll like my home. Remember, the servants there are not formal, but don't be afraid to ask for anything. Anything at all.'

Loranna looks outward, and after a moment she smiles. "Yes it is," she says, the sight of the ship sending a warm feeling through her.

" ... Right now I think the thing I want most is a bed to sleep in for a good couple of days," she jokes, squeezing Jazbet's hand back. "I'll keep that in mind."

She leans over and kisses Jazbet gently behind his ear.

The Khajiit laughs and whispers. 'Where did you learn that?'

'I might need to attend to some business when we arrive, but you will find yourself a bed. Tell Razbiah -- he's my housekeeper -- who you are, and you'll get a finer bed than, well, frankly, better than mine. And in a few days time, perhaps we can share and compare ...'

Loranna says "I have actually learned quite a bit here and there; I just never learned how to put it all together. That's the problem with lacking good sense, you know."

She makes a mental note to buy Tris a drink later.

"I understand; I'll be fine," she assures Jazbet. "I can hardly wait."

Maltne gave a few orders to his merry tribesmen on the eastern borders of the city. The Armigers quickly made their ways out of the city, up and down the hills until they could no longer be seen. Sighing, Maltne walked back to the others at the pier. He noticed a dunmer he had seen before, Reichi was his name. To many of the others of this covenant, this family, Maltne had shown little attention. Things were becoming less formal; now seemed the time to make friends.

Placing himself beside the dunmer, Maltne said, "It's quite a view. I hope as much hope can be gained on it as terror we are leaving here."

Posted by: Aki Jan 23 2005, 05:46 AM

Reichi took a few minutes to sort out the Armiger's sentence. The way it had been constructed was a bit odd to him. Then he nodded. "Its easy to be hopefull when looking away from Vvardenfell. Then one doesn't see Red Mountain. Looming in the distance ominously. Puts a damper on most's spirits," he said at last.

"Ah," Maltne replied, "That is where I was indoctrinated into this order. We stood upon the graves of our ancient enemies, smiling and laughing, reading Vivec's poetry. The mountain is still a symbol of Morrowind's darkness, but I'm sure you've had a similar experience in your own life."

Posted by: Aki Jan 23 2005, 05:55 AM

"Nah, i don't recite poetry over the graves of my enemies. I don't do poetry all too well. Besides, i don't tend to, or didn't ever stay around long enough for the my enemy to get a grave." Reichi said, a slight grin appearing on his face. "Nor do i smile and laugh on the graves much.."

"Then it is tragic, for in this world we live with many enemies, while laughter is always the best arbiter. I have run up and about this world for quite a few years now (I'm not old, mind you) and can say every new challenge is a bit more difficult than the last. If you don't enjoy yourself, every once in awhile, you'll wither and turn into a rapacious mushroom.

I'm not saying that you have to reform yourself. I'm not saying you should do anything. Cynical is the worst though."

Posted by: Aki Jan 23 2005, 06:07 AM

"Heh. Don't worry, i DO laugh. I just think its a bit in bad taste to do it over a enemy's grave." Reichi said. "Unless said enemy was dressed as a pink guar and used spoon-knives made of corkbulb as weapons.." his grin widened.

"Plus, people tend to think assassins are insane when they find them laughing over the corpse of some dead Noble."

"It was Dagoth Ur."

Maltne looked down, "Nevermind, though. I might ask what your association is here today. From what I've seen, you've been around Loranna for some time."

I never much ever worshiped Azura." Reichi replied. "Besides, its Morrowind. I gotta see how my home is gonna be affected. Heheh, though now im more cursed for it. Ah, such is life. Slavery is a flexible term anyways."

"I see. The ship is drawing ever closer, and I still have a few words to say to the nobles here. See you aboard." Maltne tapped Reichi on the shoulder, and walked off towards the mansion.

Reichi shrugged. "Never would have expected a Imperial to be the Armiger Captain.." he mumbled to himself. Then continued to watch the ship approach.

Boarding the ship did not take long; after the ordeals the party had already endured, the promise of respite from chaos and horror the ship promised lent a spring to peoples' steps. Supplies were loaded on and secured, people were settled in, and the anchor was hauled up.

Today was a good day for sailing, with a favorable wind and calm water; the trip promised to be a quiet one. Loranna, for one, was grateful for the quiet; quiet moments were becoming increasingly precious.

Loranna watches Gnaar Mok recede in her vision from the top deck as the ship sails for Jazbet's estate. She smiles as her hair is blown around by the wind, the cramps and soreness temporarily forgotten in the moment of finally leaving Vvardenfell.

Aricyn wasn't certain who, but somebody owed him a day. He had slept for at least one of those now, maybe more. Upon waking he promptly started explaining, to anyone who he could grab, the deep mysterys of life using only lines from Nordic epics. Then he fell asleep again.

The old wolf never left his side, often raising his head to lick Aricyn's face or growl at passersby.

The next time Aricyn awoke he wondered where he was. A ship. That would be a good thing. Hopefully on their way to Jazbet's manor, then. He sat up and stretched. There was a tightness in his chest that reminded him about his ribs, but they felt much better. Being in a coma was good for the healing.

He was surprised to see Allerleirauh sitting by his bedside, sewing and singing softly. She looked up when he stretched.

He insured that a certain sword and cuirass were still in his posession, and then spoke. His mouth was dry.

"Good morning."

"Well, last I remember it was Fredas, and last I heard the Emperor was some old, bald guy," he said with another smile.

"I could use something to wash my mouth out, and maybe a meal or two... or three.

Loranna rubs her head; she had had another dream much like the previous one and had, upon waking, bumped her head as she sat up gasping for breath. She still felt kind of silly about that, the terror of the crushed sensation from her dream notwithstanding.

Aricyn was awake now; she smiles at him, happy to see he pulled through.

"My eyes are tired from this fine work,"  Allerleirauh said, smiling in return.

"It's Sundas, you lost more than a day. Do you remember what happened to you?  When we found you, you were in an inn that was being set afire, and you and your wolf had both been drugged."

*

"Well that stinking...

"Tell me the innkeep is dead and I'll be happy.

"I guess you arrived just in time. Saved my life. I suppose we're even now," he said, pulling on his shirt.

"And you," he said, ruffling the fur behind the happy old wolf's ears, "what are you doing eating poisioned meat?"

"Whurf!"

"That's no excuse."

Turning back to Allerleirauh he said, "Thank you."

Illidan made his way over towards Dante's position, he found him sitting, sprawled on the ground, trying to relax the best he could. "Uhh..Dante?" He asked, shaking him about to wake him up. Dante woke up, and rose to his feet to face Illidan, "What do you want...?"

"Can I talk to you about something..." He answered, staring down at his feet "What is it...?" asked Dante, yawning loudly. "Well...uh...I've been having...this, um, recurring nightmare you see....and--"

"Yeesh, hurry up Illidan, I'm tired, I haven't slept in ages" Interrupted Dante, in a rather aggitated tone. "Ok, ok...well, in this nightmare, I have just finished....well, y'know" He leaned forward and whispered in Dante's ear, "Yup, quite a nightmare that is..." He blurted out, flatly.

"No no, I haven't finished yet, afterwards though, I realise it's a sload, and well I run outside and find myself in that place, you know the one I mean, Thrus or whatever it's called..." Dante stood, silently, staring at Illidan for a moment, then burst out in a tremendous laughter.

"Right, I knew it was a mistake telling you about this, well if you're not going to help I'm just going to go..." he started, only to be interrupted by, "Woah woah, hold on Illidan, I'm sure there is some cause behind those nightmares..."

"Like what...?" He asked, trying not sound too worried "Well Illidan, there is always the possibility that you....uh....have a thing for Sload women" He laughed.

"Ugh, shutup Dante...that's the last time I share anything with you..." he scowled back, walking hastily away from Dante.

Loranna gets up. "I'll go get something for you," she tells Aricyn, excusing herself.

Moments later, she returns, some simple but filling rations and some drink in hand.

" ... Not the best of stuff but ..." she says, handing Aricyn the food and drink.

Aricyn smiles and nods to Loranna. "Thank you. At the moment it doesn't really matter if it's the best or not," he says, stuffing some unidentifiable Dunmer food in his mouth and promptly choking.

Clearing his mouth with drink, he says to Allerleirauh, "Glad to hear it. The bastard was so... nice. Freak shipment of Nordic ale my parting wind!

"Their lives are no great loss. I can pretty easily figure out who my enemies are.

"Everyone else still alive, then? You're looking better, Loran... OH! Kynidius! Is he well? He's a fine animal."

Loranna makes a mental note not to trust overly-friendly innkeeps claiming to have freak shipments of Nordic ale from now on.

"I'm doing somewhat better, thanks," she says to Aricyn, for the moment not commenting on his sudden change in topic. "And Kynidius is well too; he is a fine animal, even if we have to occasionally remind the Dunmer with us he's not for spare rations."

"Ebonheart is a fortress. The king has a decent-sized army there. When I went through, they were having their first encounters with scattered Azurites. If your eyes aren't blue, I'd say that near Ebonheart isn't a bad place to be, at least for now.

Aricyn snorted over his food.

"First, I did say you should have all boys. A boy's father should raise a son to be a warrior. All you have to do is nurse them.

"Secondly, I'd never met Loranna until the other day. Seen a lot of Azura inside Loranna, to be sure, but never Loranna. Now I have.

"I think it's about high time you stopped feeling sorry for doing things with power you should never have had. You are who you are, and that's plenty to be responsible for without all the rest.

"And if you can't stop feeling sorry for the things that happened around you, at least stop feeling sorry for yourself for being there," he added with a smile, stuffing his mouth with a second helping of... whatever that was.

Loranna grows thoughtful, and for a long moment she is quiet, thinking.

"Well ... maybe ..." she says at length ...

===

The memory of her dream the night before floats to the surface of her mind; she was shouting at Elysana, telling her to leave Tris and Ciel alone, declaring she wouldn't let her hurt them. Elysana was grinning and telling her that she wasn't going to hurt them, because Loranna had done it herself ...

... and her skin had started crawling again, and her breath became stuck in her throat, and Elysana laughed only it wasn't her voice any more and she stood up to brush the clouds with her head but it wasn't her face anymore, it was ...

And then, the giantess's foot came crashing down - and this time, the feeling of being crushed, of being filled to bursting, of being ground down to nothing, lasted even longer than before, and this time it took so much effort just to try and scream ...

===

Loranna shakes her head. " ... You're right," she tells Aricyn, " ... but that life ... isn't for me, at least not yet. I'll work on not being sorry for myself, because you're right about that - I shouldn't be."

"Because that's not the reason why I should do what I'll eventually do; it's just me not being able to do what I know I should yet, and feeling helpless I end up turning to feel sorry for myself and others."

She stops, and frowns a bit. " ... Well gee, I see I still talk a lot," she says, her frown turning to a small grin.

Loranna thinks to herself I'll pass; the only fun part of that scene I know already. Try not to fall overboard though you lug; I'm not the best of swimmers.

"Damn." She sucked a blood drop from the ball of her thumb. "Now I have to take the stitches out. Loranna shuts up very quickly at that, and after a moment, rises quietly, nodding to Allie. With a muted "Sorry about that," she heads to another part of the ship.

At the expression on Loranna's face, Allerleirauh regretted her sharp words. When she was working, she shut out all the rest of the world; she hated to be interrupted, and she hated doing work over again. But Loranna couldn't have known. She felt as if she'd slapped a child.

It had been easier in the days when she could simply pitch her thought and say, Loranna, I'm sorry...

She found Loranna, and apologized to her.

"No more sewing, it's making me short-tempered," she said. "It's been a while since I told a story; I have one, if you'd like to hear it."

She found a place on deck near Solin, and the simulacrum. It was Sen-Yedda in particular, within the womb of bronze, to whom she spoke, although her tale was also pitched for Arynel's ears. The wind was lovely, the sun mild, and the sea an entirely different color from the sea near Vivec.

She took a sip of ale, and began.

Posted by: Allerleirauh Jan 23 2005, 03:10 PM

Allerleirauh’s tale of the Three Languages

“This tale comes from Alcaire, where any village lad will show you Tiber Septim’s birthplace for a coin, despite the fact that he was born in Atmora.

“A great and powerful wizard lived in Alcaire, long ago, and he had a servant lad whom he had raised as his son, who was hopeless, and could learn nothing. So the wizard said to the lad, ‘See here, though I have raised you as my son, you are no use to me and I can cram nothing into your thick skull. I will send you for a year to another master, and see what he can do with you.’

“At the end of a year in another town with a celebrated wizard, the boy returned. ‘Well, lad, what have you learned?’ ‘I have learned what the dumb beasts say in the barn,’ the boy said. ‘Akatosh preserve us! Is that all?’ cried the master. So he sent the boy to another master for another year. ‘What have you learned, lad?’ ‘Master, I have learned what the flowers say in the field.’ ‘Even worse!’ cried the master, beating the boy with his staff. ‘You have wasted precious time and learned nothing. I will send you to a third master for another year, but if at the end of that time you still know nothing useful, leave my home and never call me master again.’

“Well, the boy came home after the third year. ‘Master, I have learned what the wind says when it passes.’ Now the master was furious and beat the boy with his staff and drove him out of his tower entirely, into the cold.

“The boy traveled until he came to a town. He had no money for food or lodging, but he went into the barn for a drink of cold water and to wash his face. While he was there, one of the horses in the stalls said, ‘Ah! Alas for the itch on my backside! I am tied so tightly that I cannot scratch it!’ So he scratched the horse’s backside.

“ ‘Do you know where I might find food and lodging?’ the boy asked the horse. ‘I advise that you not go into the town at all,’ the horse said, ‘For today I came back with my reins loose on my neck, and my mistress, the Fairest in the Land, has been kidnapped. The whole town is looking for her, and they would surely arrest a stranger. For they don’t know that she was taken by a dragon, not a man.

“ ‘How can she be saved?’ the boy asked. ‘Can you tell me where to find her?’ ‘Tell you I cannot, but show you I can,’ the horse said. ‘Only a brave lad would ask that question, and so I will tell you, I am the swiftest horse in all the world, and blessed will you call the day you scratched my backside.’

“So the boy took the horse, and they rode far to the lair of the dragon, and the boy crept inside while the dragon was gone and freed the Fairest in the Land, and he took a big chest of gold too, and he brought her out to a meadow full of flowers. Many and sweet were the kisses and caresses they exchanged then, but afterwards, while she lay sleeping, he heard the voice of the flowers, and started upright, tears in his eyes, and took the horse that was swiftest in all the world and rode away, weeping like one who cannot be consoled. Then he sent the horse back to the maiden, and walked down to where a great number of men and mer were gathered, as if for a battle.

“Though two great armies waited, no one was fighting, for that day the Emperor had died and no one knew who should take his place. The army had decided that whoever would be marked by some show of divine favor would become the next Emperor. When the boy walked into the encampment, the wind came down from heaven and surrounded his head like a storm, full of thunder, and he was proclaimed Emperor.

“Then he had to lead them into battle, and he had no idea what to do or say, but the wind sat on his shoulder and whispered into his ears and told him everything, and so he won the battle. And that was how the Empire was founded.

“For, you see, what the flowers in the meadow had said that made him leap up crying was, ‘Look, there is Hjalti Early-Beard, lying beside the Fairest in the Land! Now he must go and become Emperor, and never see her again!”

Arynel silently listened to Allerleirauh's story, nodding on some occasions, frowning briefly on others. When at last it was finished, he spoke:

"Thank you." The Breton said. "A number of words well woven are as great a gift as any treasure in the known world."

QUOTE

[Allerleirauh] found Loranna, and apologized to her.

"No more sewing, it's making me short-tempered," she said. "It's been a while since I told a story;  I have one, if you'd like to hear it."

Loranna opens her eyes and gives Allie a smile that shows she harbors no hard feelings.

"It's okay," she tells Allie. "From the sounds of it I was starting to mess with something dangerous and kind of personal. Thanks for alerting me."

She rises, adding "Stories are good; I'd be glad to hear it."

With Arynel, Solin, and Sen-Yedda, Loranna listens to Allie's tale, a thoughtful expression on her face the whole time. Tris's comment about stories healing souls comes to her mind, and she starts thinking over the events in her life and how she might someday make stories out of them for that purpose.

... Hmm; me a storyteller ... she contemplates. ... I can almost see it, though I have the feeling I'll be doing more than just telling stories in my life.

Loranna's eyes fall upon the simulcrum, and she finds herself smiling a little at its belly. Still a little strange, seeing you on the outside now, she thinks. Hope you're doing well in there Sen-Yedda ...

ooc: yea, Setzer is out of lore. loranna and i concluded that we can use his fun-loving personality/stats while remaining within the lore. so basically we're creating a rogue-gambler whose name is Setzer

Setzer was a rogue, a lovable-at heart thief-warrior with a a good load of money and a penchant for gambling it. He was a regular over at the Winged Guar, the only person ever to beat that shells-playing cheater. Setzer had baited Seles forward, pouring in 1000s of drakes, and raising every time. His contact had told him Seles's post-shells net worth was well over a million drakes. So each time he raised, Setzer had raised more, bringing the money at stake to two million by the time Seles had a full million of his own drakes.

Then he dropped his bombshell. He won the game like he could have every time before then, taking two million drakes. He counted out the million that was his own and put it back into his bulging purse, and asked the broken Seles the names of each of his victims.

Leaving behind a hundred awe-struck ex-gamblers, Setzer left Mournhold feeling content and accomplished. He regretted not taking any money for himself, but that was a small loss compared to the elation he was feeling. Anyway, they said that that Loranna woman was coming to Mournhold soon. That should be interesting. It had been a while since anything interesting had happened to Setzer...

‘That’s quite a tale,’ Jazbet said to Allerleirauh.. ‘Your bard has serious competition.’

The Khajiit slips the captain a few extra gold pieces.

‘You know the cluster of mangrove cays just south of the Ald Raathim dock? Go through them carefully, and straight west, and you’ll be at my private dock.’

The captain nodded. A few hours later, they were in view: rings of mangrove trees seemingly sprung up from the sea, like sentinels, forming a natural barrier to the bay of Jazbet’s estate.

‘We’re almost there,’ the Khajiit smiled to Loranna.

Reichi had gone to sleep. In a attempt to pass the time. He lay somewhere near the middle of the boat's deck. Covered with a blanket made of netch hide. The dunmer was sleeping sliently. But his dreams were not peaceful.

He was in a cave of ice. Icles hanging over him. Blood dried and stained the ice in front of him. At the other end of the cave was a Nord. A male nord, wearing naught but a bearskin.

"So you found me Assassin? Heh, you picked the wrong time of day...horrbily wrong.." The Nord said, rising and turning to face Reichi. Grinning insanely.

Reichi had raised his Daedric Wakizashi. He grinned. The Nord had no weapons. No armor. He was helpless. Then, it happened. The Nord doubled over in pain, fur sprouting throughout his body. His face elongating, ears migrating to the top of his head and becoming triangular.

The Nord's feet became digitgrade paws, and covered themselves with a golden fur. His hands became claws, the same fur covering them. He sprouted a tail and the fur on his body became thicker and thicker. Eventually he stood. A werewolf, with fur of the purest golden coloration.
Its eyes however, where crimson, and its face contorted into a snarl.

Reichi stood dumbfounded. A part of himself told him to run, another to fight, yet another told him not to move. He obeyed the secound part and leapt at the beast, slashing vertically with his wakizashi. The blade cut into the Werewolf and it howled in pain before slashing Reichi across the face with its claws, knocking him to the ground.

It leapt on him, jaws aimed for his throat. Reichi moved enough that the jaws sank into his shoulder instead. Then hacked wildly with his Daedric Wakizashi. Swinging at it's neck.

He didn't stop, not till the corpse slumped to his side, the head still attatched to his shoulder, jaws refusing to let go. He pulled the head from his shoulder and stumbled out of the cavern. Covered iin blood.

The next few days he had headed for Fort Frostmoth. however, he had stopped to rest. Washed, ate, went to sleep.

When he had awoke, he was nude, covered in blood. A pile of organs, bones, and flesh and blood that had been a person around him.

Reichi awoke from the dream. Then sighed in relief.

'We can take a boat out later and explore them,' Jazbet said. 'There're a couple sunken ships, or if you want something more relaxing, you can just string up a hammock and enjoy the breeze.'

Once past the mangroves, they entered the bay. A sheer cliff of rose and gray colored stone encircled them with sporadic rock-strewn beaches. A small castle stood on the highest of the cliffs, above a beach with a small port and two other boats.

'Welcome to my home,' the Khajiit smiled. He didn't need to see it to know where he was.

Loranna chuckles a little. "Maybe both, depending," she says, looking at the cliff. " ... The view from your house must be magnificient ..."

Jazbet had described his home earlier as being a modest one; Loranna decides that Jazbet's idea of modesty is a little more inspiring than hers right now, before suppresing a giggle at the thought of the handsome Khajiit who tried to sedice her after talking to her for five minutes being 'modest'

... He is though, and that's the part that's so amazing, she reflects. ... He probably doesn't need to see any of this beautiful landscape now; it's already in his heart. What a wonderful thing, to have a home like this, that you can see just by closing your eyes ...

It occurs to Loranna that, despite having been at her old bar for over a decade, she can't really recall more than the main details of it now, and those she remembers more as half-forgotten memories of a place she visited. She wonders if this is due to the stress of having been parted from Azura or if it is the last bit of proof that she hadn't really had a home there at all.

Allerleirauh wondered about the history of the place. Purchased, inherited from a sponsor who had died, a reward for service? It might not be tactful to ask. But then, Jazbet was not one to take offense easily.

"I love mangrove trees," she said. "Good hunting around here, I'd imagine."

'Excellent fishing too,' said Jazbet. 'And no slaughterfish.'

The ship pulled into the little port, and as the passengers began gathering their belongings, a stout old woman and a tall, thin lad came down the steep pathway from the castle to the beach. They waved when they recognized their master, but the woman’s face paled when she could see him in more detail.

‘Oh, sweet Mara,’ she cried. ‘What has happened to your face, Lord Jazbet? Why are you wearing a blindfold?’

The two hurried down the dock to the ship.

‘My lord, are you all right?’ asked the boy.

‘I’ve been better, to be honest, Kallen,’ Jazbet said, but with a smile. ‘I need rooms made up for all these people … Think you can handle it?’

‘Of course,’ Kallen shrugged, as if a surprise visit with a pile of people, arranging shelter and food for all was as simple as passing the boiled asparagus.

‘My lord,’ the woman began to cry, looking at his face.

‘Razbiah, please, compose yourself,’ the Khajiit said, kissing her forehead.

‘I can’t help it,’ Razbiah wailed. ‘Your eyes …’

‘I know,’ Jazbet sighed, embracing her. ‘It will take some getting used to.’

To all on the ship, the Khajiit said, ‘My house is your house. Razbiah, Kallen, and the rest of the staff will see to your meals and shelter. Only treat them with respect. There are no slaves in this part of Dres territory.’

As the boat approched the dock, Dagoth took in the sight of Jazbet's estate.

Arynel nodded to Jazbet.

"Very well," the Breton said to everyone and no one. "I think I might pay a visit to the mangroves, if that is alright?"

Posted by: Sheogorath Jan 24 2005, 03:33 AM

ooc: I'm heading out for the evening, but feel free to explore the place and improv.

The castle is not a huge palace, but it’s beautiful, well-maintained, with a bunch of friendly, not particularly formal servants.

It’s a working plantation, and Jazbet was not among those who gave up his profits for the Incarnate. The workers are not slaves, but simple peasants. He is the lord of about fifty miles of land, which is mostly wilderness, with a few villages, the largest of which is Ald Raathim, your typical quaint village, with an excellent tavern and a few shops.

The bay is safe for swimming and fishing, with no slaughterfish or dreughs, and there are, like Jazbet said, a number of shipwrecks near the mangrove barrier of island cays.

Should be plenty to occupy one and all.

Loranna smiles mentally to Dagoth, and nods to Jazbet. "Of course," she says, nodding to Razbiah and Kallen and waiting to be told where her room will be.

Though, she reflects, she's not feeling especially tired just yet, and the area around here did look quite nice and inviting ...

Reichi gazed at at the beautiful place. He smiled. "Fianally, we can rest," he murmered. He jumped off the ship and onto the beach.

Posted by: Arynel Jan 24 2005, 03:50 AM

After having traveled a goodly distance, Arynel could see the mangroves ahead. The Breton took a seat on large stone on the shore, letting his feet dangle out over the water.

Latius stepped off the deck, and onto the pier. He had decided to pack light - carrying a few weapons and tools, a cold weather robe, and some food. Standing on the pleasant, rocking dock, Maltne face was tickled with a warm caress of sunshine. For the moment untroubled, he looked out upon the high cliffs and bluffs, resolving to venture upon them, although he stood wrapped within the ecstacy of the moment and did nothing. Scratching his head, Maltne looked at Jazbet.

"Thank you for your excellent patronship, Lord Jazbet. I am heavily in your debt," Maltne said to the noble Khajiit as he was helped away, "This Armiger knows of your truth." Even though the captain knew it was futile to bow, he did anyway as Jazbet walked up to his castle.

Posted by: Loranna Jan 24 2005, 04:10 AM

Loranna had next to nothing of her own to bring off the ship; the servants were friendly and casual but also polite, and when Loranna asked to be taken to a room to get some rest, she was easily pursuaded to also avail herself of a relaxing bath and some new, non-worn clothing. Loranna smiled, thinking to herself that right now a warm bath would be very, very nice ...

One servant had asked her if she was all right, noting that Loranna walked with slight discomfort; Loranna said she was okay, though perhaps later, if it was all right, she could talk to a healer. For right now though, a wash and a change of clothes was foremost on her mind.

===

Her room, like the castle itself, was at once modest yet inviting, engaging one's senses without having to resort to ostentatiousness. Loranna felt herself instinctively liking the way Jazbet had decorated his home, and felt more at home in ten minutes than the old bar had left her feeling in years.

The bath had done her good, and the shirt and skirt she had been given in exchange for her old blue dress suited her fancy just fine for now. She looked at the warm, comfortable bed that lay in front of her, but just now she felt more interested in at least seeing some more of Jazbet's estate than in simply curling up under the covers. The Nine knew, once she did she may not wake up for a day or so - an actual bed to sleep in after the past few days would simply be too good to resist.

Her hair still slightly wet, Loranna walks through Jazbet's castle, debating wether to head back outside to the beach or to stay inside and admire the decor. It was tough to choose; she felt like doing everything at once ...

The first and only thing Dagoth did after he got off the boat, was head to the beach, and stare out at the sea. He thought of all that had happened, what he was gonna do now that the ordeal with Azura was mostly over, and how he would be able to help Loranna adjust to the changes she has gone through.

'All we have gone through, all we must get rid of, and all we have gained... freedom is our reward.'

Starring out at the Inner sea, Reichi felt the urge to sing something. He sang it low, though anyone close enough to could hear it. It was a old song, one he had learned from a friend.

"Been a long road to follow,
Cities here today, gone tomorrow,
The way has been hard, but we made it,
Maybe by tommorrow, the rain cloud will no longer follow,
Maybe we can all find solace in the water's shallows,

Perhaps that peace is reserved for the eternal sleep,
So by next week, the rain may return,
And to the path of destruction, i will turn..."

When he finished he lay down on the beach. Starring at the blue sky.

Trod the path along the shore
Walk the road where the mangroves grow
Til the sky the sea to meet
One day come over hill to greet
The feet grow weary from the day long labor
Find rest at last at the end of the trail

The Breton picked up a smooth round stone, and began to examine it.

Loranna laughs, her thoughts wrapping around Dagoth's a little. "Just being with you right now pleases me, because it also pleases you," she says, taking Dagoth's hand in hers.

It's getting a little easier to handle not being the one doing the reaching out, she tells Dagoth. I think it helped that we bared our souls to one another beforehand - either that or I'm just getting more used to not having the telepathy myself. Either way; it matters little, since the result is the same.

The two of them walked along the beach, their footprints leaving an intriguing contrast in the sand, and they talked and looked out at the sea, both laughing as the mood takes them.

Posted by: Allerleirauh Jan 24 2005, 05:45 AM

Allerleirauh:

It felt strange not to be facing a crisis of some kind. There were plenty of disasters at the edge of the map - but none within reach.

She should be planning the defense of the simulacrum; surely the Temple would try to take it from them.

She should be trying to contact Leseth, to save them all from Bosriel.

And she should be writing letters - to those in power, with whom she had connections - about the Azurites, and what might be able to be done about them.

All of those things could wait until tomorrow. She brushed her hair out and wore it loose, over her shoulders, like a child. Walked in the mangrove forest. Spoke to a heron; caught a small silver fish with her hand, then put it back. Examined the native plants and determined to check Jazbet's library for an alchemical formulary. Set a snare and took a duck. She wondered if there was a gamekeeper, and if she needed to speak to him. No, probably not. A khajiit wouldn't have a gamekeeper. She found a nest of snakes' eggs, took two to eat and one to cut open and examine and left the others.

She walked up on the cabins accidentally, retreated into the woods, and roasted her duck, to the sound of creaking, unfamiliar insects. The mainland had its own voice which was not the voice of Vvardenfell. She wondered if Vehk could speak to her here, shaping the voices of cicadas, as he did sometimes when she was at her estate on the Odai.

The wild duck had been feeding on fish - it had a strong flavor, peculiar but not unpleasant. The snake's eggs, roasted in the ash, were divine. She ate one, wrapped the other in a cloth, and tucked it in her pocket. In the fading light she returned to the castle.

All of this, and more, was Sen-Yedda's birthright. How to give it to her? No dancing barons came at her beckoning, but she knew a few names. Ah - vacation was over already - her mind was hard at work again.

He decided he was leaving Mournhold. He had heard from a drunk that Loranna's party could be found at the estate of a Khajit named Jazbet (he doubted it was the truth, but he figured there was no harm), on the shore. He was getting bored, lying around his manor was hardly an adventure. He could never forget that while he was a rich playboy now, he had come up from poverty through cunning and battle...he shook his head to try to avoid his past. Jazbet lived on the shore, he told himself. An annoying voice reminded him So did she...

No. Jazbet lived on the shore.

Well, that was enough for him - he knew where he could buy a boat. After that it was a simple question of riding the coastline until he met some people.

But there were preparations to be made, as well. He bought himself a velvet and silk expensive black jumpsuit and some new jewelry, all of it gold and flashy. There were gold rings on each of his fingers, bracelets, earrings. It would probably be a detriment in battle, but his job right now was to impress people.

Anyway, the jumpsuit was far from frivolous. In fact, it was very useful. It was a deeply and powerfully magical enchanted cloth. There were multiple enchantments on it designed to take commands from his head. It wasn't unstoppable, though - far from it. Setzer liked to win his battles, but he also liked to have a little risk involved. He was a gambler. What was life without risk?

So he created the clothes to be powerful, but not invincible. As an expert in the martial arts, he made it so lightweight that he could not feel it, so thin that it was almost not there, but magically enchanted to cause his image to flicker during battle, making him harder to spot and hit - a sanctuary spell. It was also enchanted on each wrist and ankle for absorbtion damage on contact, added damage in the heat of battle. From a distance he could fire "darts" of each elemental attack, but he had made sure the darts were not too powerful, and they would run out.

There were probably other enchantments he had forgotten, too...

He pushed the boat off the shore and began to row...

Solin sat in comfortable chair, hard at study. The small keep's library provided sufficent privacy for his needs, though he had his own books. The simulacrum sat across the chamber from the mer, silent but for the humming of gears.

Hours passed.

Solin closed the cover of the large volume, bound in red hide, and set it aside. It still needed work but he let it rest for now. Rising from his seat the Dunmer turned to the shelves.

He gaze passed over both familiar and unfamilar covers. Fiction and non-fiction. Cartography. Did the Khajiit have any books on the subject? Solin did not know but he was going to peruse the shelves till he found the answer.

After a while rowing, Setzer's arms ached. He was clearly not as fit as he had once been - too much rum and not enough run, really. Ah well, he was still young. He could bring himself back to speed soon enough.

Finally in the distance he could see two figures. One of them he recognized to be Loranna, the woman he was seeking to talk to. There was a figure next to her who he could not identify from this distance, although he could tell that it was strange. He was shocked that the drunkard hadnt been lying. Or more likely, he was, and didnt know he had been right. Oh well, it worked.

He continued to work forward, waiting for Loranna to notice him and react.

Arynel eyed the boat approaching off in the distance.

"I wonder who that is?" The Breton asked himself. "A friend of the Khajiit's?"

Another person was in the library with Solin, but she didn't speak to him. Doll was searching for books on magic use. She was good company in that she might as well not have been there. She simply went about her business.

Later, though, she intended to demand that Solin come through on his offer to help her pursue her magical studies.

It had been a lovely little walk; Loranna had waded into the water and playfully splashed Dagoth once or twice, earning her a couple telekenetic splashes in return. She didn't even mind not being able to return those in kind anymore; she was free now, and telekenesis spells could be studied later.

She notices a new figure heading toward her and Dagoth, one she did not recognize. Frowning a bit, she slows her step, approaching the newcomer carefully.

... He's ... very flashy, she thinks, looking Setzer up and down. I don't think he's from Jazbet's lands. Perhaps he's a visitor? His eyes don't glow blue at least ...

In the brief moment that Loranna looks over Setzer, the gambling rogue has a chance to size her up as well - unmistakably Nordic features, blond hair and blue eyes, yet ashen skin like a Dunmer, and silver streaks under her eyes like the path of tears. Her belly looks ample still, and her expression is wary.

Dagoth's illusionary mein frowns as he stands near Loranna protectively - and to hide his skeletal footprints in the sand. When he thinks no one can see, he quietly uses minor telekenesis to sweep up the prints he and Loranan left.

Loranna decides to at least try to be courteous, and does a quick curtsey, saying " ... Hello good sir and well met; to whom do we owe the pleasure of this meeting?"

Posted by: Tricrux Jan 24 2005, 06:35 AM

Setzer reached into his pocket and pulled out a deck of cards, shot them up into the air, and caught them in his mouth on the way back down. He spat them out, and they landed face up and suited.

"The name is Setzer. Rogue, gambler, playboy, sensei. Whatever term you choose, your own business. I suppose youre Loranna. I've heard the wildest things about you, most of them centering on the fact that there are a lot of people mad at you right now. Let's talk. We can talk while we walk If I feel like your cause is worth fighting for, i'll join up with you and put everything I've got on the line. As you can see, I'm hardly the same Setzer who stormed the castle at..."

His expression clouded over. "I don't want to talk about my past. Anyway, I used to be quite the athlete, you know? And now I've got a mead belly and too much jewelry, and i need something to do. My life is too slow, I'm becoming too civilized..."

With a clean sweep of his foot, the cards were back in his hand. "Come now, Loranna. Tell me why I should lay my life on the line for you. And who's your companion?"

(OOC: This is SOOOOO asking for a sweatdrop ... happy.gif)

Setzer can plainly see he has just nonplussed Loranna; the young woman's jaw is slightly slack and her eyes are slightly widened.

" ... Ah; hi," she says, trying to wrap her mind around what Setzer just said. "This is Dagoth; he's a .. good friend."

Dagoth mutters something which sounds vaguely greeting-like, privately thinking that this mortal is an incredible show-off and a couple months too late to be swearing to join Loranna's cause - or rather Azura's may the Daedra Prince never darken Mundus with her shadow again ...

" ... Er, you do know I'm not really looking for people to join my cause anymore, right?" she asks Setzer. "I'm no longer the Incarnate Mother and while there is much to be done yet for people of heroic bent, I'm not the one to be leading them ..."

She frowns, muttering something under her breath about her having poor manners. " ... You've obviously come a fair way though, and it would be inpolite to just say Sorry, Can't Help You ... please forgive me sir. Let's walk and talk and perhaps you'll find something of worth from this trip yet. At the very least, you've come to some of the lovliest land in all of Morrowind."

... All right; Dagoth's with me so I shouldn't worry too much, Loranna assures herself. This is just a really odd meeting along the road, not another meeting with death ... I hope ...

He was immediately aware that he had frightened her, that she was wary. So, there was no cause to fight for? There must be. All of the people around him were fatigued, after all. They had been doing some intense fighting. He really needed something to do, and well, this Loranna was the biggest news that had happened for some time. If not ever.

He realized that his attempt to flash them into acceptance wasn't working. He stopped fluttering his fingers to draw attention to his rings.

"What do i need to do to make you think I won't kill you?"

"Dante, come help me build a sand castle..."Ordered Illidan, in a surprisingly happy mood, Dante was laying on a hammok, enjoying himself the best he could. Illidan had supposedly woken him up, "no."

"W-what, what do you mean no!? this is some good quality family time damnit!" He yelled agitatedly, Dante rolled his eye and said "Give me about ten minutes, I'll join in then, ok?"

"Sounds great, I'll just go get some pots and jars and we can get started..." He called back, as he joyfully skipped back onto the boat to look for said objects. "That'll keep him busy..." Dante muttered to himself, rolling over back onto his side and snickering.

"I wish I knew," Loranna says, frowning. "Then I'd know what to tell people when I first meet them ..."

She sighs. " ... Please forgive me; it's been a very long past few months. I'm not trying to be rude, really ..."

She stops and considers. " ... You're looking to join up with a worthy cause, sir? There are causes to which you could turn yourself that we here could tell. As you can guess, we are all a little wary though ..."

" ... Tell you what," she offers. "Let's talk a little more and give ourselves time to come to know one another more. Tell me, what have you heard about the recent events on Vvardenfell?"

Dagoth, Loranna says mentally, see if you can let Allie know we have a new visitor claiming he wishes to join us ... or something. I noticed Arynel was watching us earlier so he may be judging this guy too but it wouldn't hurt to let her know.

They walked and talked for a while, and Setzer seemed drawn in by Loranna's story. In the end they concluded nothing. They went back to Jazbet's castle, where Jazbet was kind enough to give Setzer a room.

They'd figure things out in the morning.

Loranna watches as Setzer heads to Jazbet's castle, her toes digging into the sand.

She looks over at Dagoth, who gives her a shrug only a fleshless collection of powerful magic bones can give.

" ... Yeah; friend or foe that was at least an interesting talk," Loranna concurs.

Quite suddenly, Aricyn comes tearing over the grassy hills, his shirt off, his chest rippling, and his snow-white hair streaming out behind him. He is almost, but not quite, outrunning the old wolf at his heels.

The huge grey beast barked and snapped as they passed Loranna and her companion.

Aricyn turned over his shoulder and laughed, "HAH! You're just an old..." The wolf lept.

Man and beast fell in a tumble. As soon as Aricyn was down, the old wolf clamped his jaws around the back of his head.

Instantly, Aricyn let out a shout and lept to his feet, pointing a strong finger at the wolf.

"ONE more time, I swear... Do that ONE more time and I'll be wearing you."

"Gnuff," said the wolf, unconcerned.

Exactly ten minutes past and Dante found himself being shaken awake by Illidan, "C'mon Dante, time to hold up you're end of the bargain.." He stated, grinning noticeably, Dante sat up and grunted, "Fine, just give me a sec..."

At that he grouchily stood out of the hammock and removed his gauntlets, pauldrons and his cuirass, safely placing them down on the hammock he asked, "Ok, where do we start?"

"Well....I've already started, as you can probably see" Illidan explained, looking rather smug, "But...the um...sand didn't stand up too well..." He added, pointing to the hopeless mound of sand standing ridicuously high.

"Illidan....you did remember to wet the sand, didn't you?" asked Dante, rather dumbstruck at the site of this 'sand castle'. "You have to wet it? hm, that's news to me.."

"Whatever, just...gimme that damn jar" He snarled, snatching a redware jar from Illidan and filling it with wet sand, he then tipped the jar upside down and tapped either side of it, after a few seconds he lifted the jar and in it's place a nice pillar of sand stood.

Loranna sighs and shakes her head. "I need to get used to the idea that the rest of you are invulnerable - or at least think you are," she says. "It'll spare me a lot of that worrying people keep warning me to avoid."

Her grin dims a little. "Oh ... we have a new visitor. Named Setzer; he seems to be a gambler and an adventurer, seeking a worthy cause into which to throw himself. And I'm still the hottest news in Morrowind, so here he's come. I'm not too sure if he's truly sincere or if he has the skill to back up his boasting, but you or Allie may find him a helpful ally for whatever future plans you're both doubtlessly working on."

Surveying his handiwork he muttered under his breath about forgetting to place a door at the bottom. Then he set to making a more utilitarian outpost in the style of an imperial keep. Illidan frowned once he saw Teleran doing his thing with the sand, he turned back and looked at his own sand castle, and frowned some more, What in the name of kwama was I thinking....? he thought to himself, closing his eyes and hoping that when he opened them the mound of sand had dissapeared, needless to say, it didn't.

Dante on the other hand had placed two smaller pillars next to the large one and had now taken out his dagger of senses and was carving into the pillars, taking a surprisingly large amount from their original forms.

"That's better," Aricyn says, closing his eyes to the sun. "You should just find someplace where you can look like that all the time, and have lots of kids."

He lay there, looking very pale against the grass.

"That's better," Aricyn says, closing his eyes to the sun. "You should just find someplace where you can look like that all the time, and have lots of kids."

He lay there, looking very pale against the grass.

Loranna noticed the sword that, at least for awhile, had taken her life, lay cradled in Aricyn's belt.

" ... Allie didn't tell you much about the woman you found me strangling back near Stonehill, I guess," Loranna surmises, staring at the Moon Riever. "I've almost no skill at all at proper parenting; my best maternal role model was a woman who ended up carrying around the corpse of her stillborn son for twenty years."

" ... It even looks different to me now," she says, smiling a bit. "... Lot of people probably want that sword."

Dante's eye glanced over to Teleran, then quickly back to what he was doing with his pillars of sand, after he'd finished thining them down a little they were left with a rather, oval-esque shape to them. He leaned back a little bit and admired his work.

Looking good so far... He thought, as he took the dagger in his hand and carefully started to carve a long hole going from one end to the other through the centre pillar. "What's so interesting?" He asked, retracting his dagger from the tunnel it had just carved.

Aricyn snorts, not bothering to open his eyes. "You've met my excuse for a father. That's not going to keep me from having a hall-full of strong boys and beautiful girls.

"Our parents, the old demons, have had their life. Don't give them yours."

His hand went to the pommel of the modest-seeming sword.

"A lot of people can die trying to get it."

"Good idea..." Dante complimented, scooping the remaining sand out of the tunnel and starting on the details of the archways and entrances in the sand structure.

"I'll just get started on the mote...." Added Illidan, digging a cirular pit around the structure..."A mote?" asked Dante, confused.

"Yes, well, this still is technically a sand castle, and what do castles need...? motes, that's what they need."

Loranna looks over at Aricyn, raising her eyebrows.

" ... Yeah; good point," she mutters, giving the wolf a quick smile. "Guess I should leave him to sleep now; see you later."

Loranna gets up, stretching a bit and wondering wether to head back to the beach or over the hills Aricyn had come from earlier. She eventually decides to head back to the castle instead, wondering if Jazbet is free.

Posted by: Sheogorath Jan 24 2005, 09:41 AM

The castle had thirty-six rooms, more than enough for everyone to have their own bedroom, particular when parlors were converted. A team of housemaids worked furiously to get them into the proper condition for the distinguished company.

Two of the rooms were off limits, however. Jazbet’s bedroom was in the tower, and his study was on the floor above.

It was here he had been for hours with Kallen, his seneschal. The lad was only seventeen, but he instinctively had a knack for organization and an inherent sense of gravitas – very rare among Jazbet’s servants, who were generally of the casual type – which prompted his elevation in rank.

‘Read to me again the fourth page of expenditures,’ said Jazbet. ‘I’m sorry. The numbers got mixed in my head.’

‘Certainly, my lord,’ said Kallen, taking up the book.

Running a castle and plantation and the lands that surround it was an effort mired in the details. With the lord of the manor blind, it was an even slower process than ever.

An hour later, the Khajiit decided to take a break, and walk the grounds. He could not see, but he could experience. Jazbet began in the herb gardens, where the smells alone were intoxicating.

Posted by: Allerleirauh Jan 24 2005, 09:52 AM

Allerleirauh explored the inside of the castle. It certainly wasn't a small house, as Jazbet had hinted earlier... nor even a small castle, compared to the northern ones she had grown up in, where only the master and mistress had a separate room.

She took note of Solin and Doll studying; marked where the others were staying; noticed that Tris and Ciel were nowhere to be found, and the door of their room was bolted from the inside. Now, if only she had reason to bolt her door from the inside, all would be right with the world.

She wandered outside. There was an herb garden. She really would have to buy an alchemical formulary for the plants of this area. And there was Jazbet.

"Your little house is lovely," Allerleirauh said. "Do you mind company?"

Loranna arrives in the castle, noting the still frentic activity of the housemaids. A few quick questions direct her to the herb gardens, where Sir Jazbet was last seen heading.

She noticed the scents before anything else; wild and exotic to her senses. The gardens were beautiful, full of sights and smells to keep her attention for hours, and like all of Jazbet's lands, peaceful yet friendly as well.

For a second, Loranna pauses, feeling her eyes moisten. This was, right now, one of the nicest places she had even seen, and just thinking on that made her emotions stir. She takes a deep breath, drawing intoxicating scents into herself, and wipes her eyes.

Wandering through the garden, she calls out to Jazbet: "Dear, are you out here?"

"My seneshal does that," Allerleirauh said, smiling. "But he insists on terrifying me with his calculations sometimes. I think that's what seneshals do for recreation. Speaking of which... you were very lucky, weren't you?"

She turned to survey the land.

"When Loranna freed the slaves, you came out well, compared to your house brothers. However do you manage?"

At that moment, she heard Loranna's voice, and turned to look at her.

She soon finds Jazbet and Allie, and smiles in greeting. "Hi again ... I'm not interupting anything, am I?"

He knew he ought to be sleeping, but Setzer had other things on his mind. He had set out just looking for an adventure to pass his time, hearken back to the good old days, but as things stood, he was deeply involved in the story. He truly felt the urge to work with Loranna, and he felt sure that her cause was just. At the very least the odds of the small party fighting off their many angry pursuers were small. Small odds made for a more interesting game.

He got out of bed.

Quietly he padded towards the library. There he began to search through Jazbet's history archives, alone and away from the others there. Looking carefully through the scrolls from four years ago, he found what he was looking for - the Assault at Red Castle. He thumbed through the pages tearfully, remembering tragedy from days gone by.

Not in the clearest of emotional states, Setzer stuffed the scroll back into the box and walked away, crying. On his way out, he walked right into Doll.

"Oh, forgive me, sir," Doll said quickly, though the bump wasn't her fault. Instinctively she checked her belongings, but the man in the Khajiit suit didn't seem to have picked her pocket.

Being a curious creature, as spies tend to be, she wondered why he had been crying. But she was too diplomatic to confront him; instead she went to look at the scroll he had been reading, and stored her observations for later.

The Assault on Red Castle

Recently last week, an angry mob surrounded Red Castle, a shoreline estate on the coast of Vvardenfell. They demanded that the proprietor, Maren Andrano, release his slaves. When he refused, the mob assaulted his home. The castle is now pillaged, Andrano dead. The only other casualty appears to be a woman named Celeste, who appears to have fallen off the tower with her lover, Setzer. Setzer remains alive but in critical condition. He is yet unaware of Celeste's death, and believes her to have left him in his near-death state.

An interesting side-note to this is that Andrano posessed over 4 billion Septims on his estate. That money is now gone.

After another half hour of carving, crumbling, cursing and digging, the sand castle was complete, the high fane looked surprisingly average, as did the ministry of truth....and, how could anyone forget, the mote. "Like a work of art that is..." Stated Illidan happily, slapping Dante on the back.

"Right....a work of art, that's exactly what it is Illidan, a work of art..." He replied, quietly, "But it's still missing one thing..." Illidan added, looking over the 'sand highfane'.

"Oh lord, what is it mising Illidan?" He asked grudgingly, in a sense he already knew what answer was coming his way but waited anyway "A drawbridge..."

"A what!? no, the High Fane doesn't have a drawbridge! it doesn't even have a mote, don't make me throw the ministry at you Illidan"

... And that was a question I didn't think to ask when we met, Loranna thinks to herself when Allie speaks. Even though I had been ... curious, at least ...

She briefly wonders how she'd have reacted if she had learned Jazbet had owned slaves. The question sits in the back of her mind, not really trying to get answered but not totally going away either.

Complicated feelings ... I can understand that, she reflects, squeezing Jazbet's hand affectionately.

Having awoken from a pleasant afternoon nap, Aricyn walked along the shore, watching the white birds swoop for their supper.

Spotting the men on the beach industriously building in the sand, he approached them curiously.

"Not bad. Not bad at all," he said, looking at the fine representation of Vivec's temple.

"You're brother's right, though, something IS wrong..."

Aricyn reached out with one foot, and kicked the little Ministry of Truth back into sand.

"There."

Aricyn grinned, then continued down the beach.

"Whuf!" said the old wolf.

QUOTE(Sheogorath @ Jan 24 2005, 03:10 AM)

'I suppose so,' the Khajiit replied, smiling. 'No one's complained yet.  But Razbiah's cooking is ... there's a lot of heart in it, and some of it is quite edible.  We will, however, need to take a trip into town to taste the best food in the east.'
'I have complicated feelings about slavery,' Jazbet nodded. 'If this were a bigger plantation, I might have to be a hypocrite.  But fortunately, I am not so rich to be conflicted.  Thank you for the kind words about my home.  It is designed only for my own pleasure, not to impress anyone else, so it is a happy accident when other people appreciate it as well.'

QUOTE(Loranna @ Jan 24 2005, 03:16 AM)

"It is a lovely home," she says.  "One that reflects you well, dear."

"I've never been a slave," Allerleirauh said. "I've been a stripper, and I've been a nun, but not that - yet, anyway. I do think though, that there are no victims, only oppressors and people trying to get by. I'm not partial to oppressors, for personal reasons."

She bent to smell a long, nodding flower. "Your home is perfect. It's not lacking in any of the true luxuries. As for the cook - well, I have a very good one myself, but she hits me with a spoon whenever I go near my own kitchen."

She laughed.

'There is nothing worse,' Jazbet smiles, though there is little humor in his voice. 'I would give up all my senses to stay free. Now tell me more about your days as a stripper, that sounds very interesting ...'

Now the humor is back in his voice.

"A normal spoon or a giant spoon?" Loranna asks with a grin, before bringing Jazbet's hand to her lips for a kiss.

" ... Yeah, people getting bored and starting trouble can be a worry," she says. "Wish I had learned how to handle such earlier. If it helps, tell people that the former Incarnate is with you here and if they make mischief she'll get angry and fire will shoot out of her eyes unless they bow down and sing Hair Aruza backwards three times."

Dante frowned, "Why.....would somebody do that? why would.....anybody do that!?" he asked himself loudly,Dante scooped up one of the smaller Archways from the High Fane and pelted it at Aricyn, hitting him in the back and shattering back into it's former self.

Allerleirauh laughed. "If you're jealous, Loranna, you needn't be. It's not at all an arousing story. I was little more than a child; I had to survive somehow, and I hadn't been brought up to have more useful talents. I learned that some men like paralysis and terror in their partners, which is a useful lesson but not one that makes you fond of men; and I learned that I had power, whether I desired it or not, and that power had consequences. Much like your journey - except I think I was colder, most of the time; that hall was drafty. In the end I didn't slice my face off just to be rid of it, and went on to better things."

She changed the subject.

"I am concerned with how we'll manage these people. They've proven to be unmanageable in the past. And I'm still more concerned with how many Azurites might be around. Jazbet, are any worshippers of Azura here, now, among your own people? They might be sending word of our arrival to the Temple as we speak.

"Oh - and it's a very large spoon. Igba gra-Busnok is a very large lady."

He turned and walked further down the beach.

I doubt word has even reached Ald Raathim that we've landed ... But I don't doubt that some of the villagers took the oath to Azura. Loranna smiles a bit, though her eyes show a somewhat different emotion. " ... I wasn't jealous, actually; after everything we've been through ..."

She shrugs. There were several things on her mind but deciding which to say was proving hard.

"As for a fortnight hun I'll have to start working out while I'm recovering from my recent abortion; that'll take a bit more stamina than I have just right now and I'd hate to disappoint once you earned yourself a fortnight." She grins.

"Like Wyrloc. I want to make a courtesy call to his family, and the family of Gaor. Not that they'll appreciate Vivec's slattern, I imagine, but Gaor mentioned his children - I feel I should do something for them, and perhaps there are investments I could make. In something other than revenge, which is always a precious commodity here.

"Loranna, you're not a natural leader. Some people aren't. The problem with Azura was that she forced you to be a leader; and you hated it, and resisted it, and so it went badly. Not that these people are easy to govern. But the ones who have stayed with us this far are mostly good people. Being chased by demons peels off those who aren't loyal."

While wringing her hair out and giving Allie a wink, Loranna listens to Jazbet, her eyebrows raising.

" ... Is this what I think it is ..." she says softly.

Aricyn sat the watercan down and looked at the Khajiit. His eyebrows raised a notch.

Without questioning, he did as the man requested and swung at him. He aimed for his chest, thinking his face had taken enough punishment for one lifetime.

Aricyn wasn't slow. With a sword, at least, he was faster that Allerleirauh, and when he swung he didn't hold back... much.

The blow connected, and Jazbet flew back into an aromatic hedge.

'Ouch,' the Khajiit said, after a moment, sucking hard to get air back into his lungs. 'Well, I saw that coming too, but it didn't do much good. Who hits their host that hard? Who hits a blind man that hard? ... I'm beginning to think that vision I saw of you in Gnaar Mok wasn't a bad future at all.'

He didn't get up, but he was smiling.

"Come on, then," Allerleirauh said, offering him her arm. "You're not used to playing with Nords! That was a baby punch."

She winked at Aricyn.

Jazbet groaned and got to his feet, rubbing his chest. He took a piece of the bush he had landed in and put it in his mouth.

'A convenient landing spot,' the Khajiit smiled. 'Good medicinal qualities.'

"Well, you did ask me to," said Aricyn.

"What's this about a vision?" he asked, very seriously.

Loranna simply raises her eyebrows at Aricyn, before kneeling down to take Jazbet in her arms.

"We Nords tend to not do things half-measure, I've learned," she says to Jazbet, smiling a little. "Do you need any healing, love?"

She tenderly helps Jazbet up if needed, her touch warm; she wishes her limited healing magic were more useful.

Aricyn smiled widely.

"By the Wind, Loranna! I didn't break him. You're a Lowland girl... I forget that, though.

"Now about this vision?"

'No, I'm fine, just a little sore,' Jazbet smiled, still rubbing his chest. 'You ought to try some of these leaves too. They're excellent for cramps. A bit bitter though ... Razbiah could brew some up in a tea ...'

"I'm not sure if it will ever be reliable enough to replace your eyes," Allerleirauh said. "But it can do things they couldn't. And Wyrloc said you were a mediocre fighter anyway; play to your strengths."

"Well then," Aricyn said, covering the Khajiit's shoulder with a broad white hand, "I seem to owe you my life, or at least a share of it," he says, looking at Allerlierauh.

"I know an old Nord woman who made the same trade, except hers was voluntary."

"I'll ask her about that," Loranna says with a smile, gently holding her hand over the spot where Aricyn's fist met Jazbet's chest. "They're not truly painful but they get distracting sometimes ..."

"I'll tell you sometime.

"And I don't forget things like Gnaar Mok quite so easily," he added with a smile to his voice.

"Now! If you lovebirds are done here, why don't we go see if that cook is as bad as you say she is. I'm getting hungry again."

'I should get back to Kallen,' said Jazbet. 'I'm barely half done with going over the books ... I just felt like a little break,' he rubbed his chest again, grinning. 'Just not a break like that. On the other hand, I don't think I'm ever going to think of this little herb garden quite the same again ...

'But you should eat. And, like I said, if there's nothing here to your liking, try the tavern in Ald Raathim. You won't be sorry.'

Loranna smiles, feeling a sensation she hadn't felt in perhaps two decades. She felt at home.

It is now time to lock this thread, and to call the Morning Star Parade RP to an end. We now enter a new world, with challenges and wonders we can only guess at.

This time, there won't be an announcement thread; we'll simply jump to the new RP from here, picking up where this one leaves off. I have the pleasure then of ending Morning Star Parade and starting Blue Dawn.

But first, the moment of transition from one to the other ...
