The Elder Scrolls Forums _ Elder Scrolls Lore _ RP: High Rock Hijinks

Posted by: Loranna Apr 7 2005, 04:21 AM

Hello, and welcome to our Elder Scrolls Role Playing threads, where we adventure and socialize in the vibrant land of Tamriel.

Before we begin, we'd like to clarify a few things:

This is an 'open roleplay' and everyone is encouraged to join in at any time!

'Open' roleplay does not mean 'unorganized' or 'limitless', however. The events in this story are usually planned, and if something BIG happens, you can be certain that it is the result of much discussion between players, usually in the mIRC chat (#Loranna_RP). This is not just a bunch of disorganized individuals doing what they think would be fun for their character at the time.

So, while everyone is welcome to join in, they are NOT welcome to jump in and do big, world-changing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST. Let me be very clear about what cannot be done without permission:

1:
Any action that effects another person's character, for ill or good. Although most people realize they can't harm another person's character without permission, many don't realize that you can't HELP another character without permission, either. Many characters have flaws for a reason. Don't go healing, saving, or otherwise fixing another character without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the player involved.

2:
Any event that would drastically change things that have been done to the world, whether the change is physical (rebuilding destroyed locations), political (converting a population to a new cause), military (killing off all the badguys) or anything else. Almost every situation, good or bad, that exists in the RP was done for some reason. Don't go changing or fixing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the group.

Everyone who is involved in the RP is welcome in the mIRC chat channel #Loranna_RP. If you have a plot idea then you are encouraged to go there and discuss it. If you cannot get on the channel for some reason, or if the player whos character you would affect with your plan is not there, then PM them using this board's PM function. That's what it's there for.

For information on reaching #Loranna_RP via Mirc or Chatspike, look http://sekkairc.freewebpage.org/.

Not following the above advice will only result in one thing: your post is likely to be completely ignored by everyone as if it did not happen. This is obvously not good for anyone, so please, discuss major events before doing them.

Remember: Secret plans and surprises are seldom fun for anyone else. Before they're revealed they're boring, because nobody knows about them, and afterwards they're just annoying, because nobody knew about them.

Thank you, and have fun!

Summary for Loranna:

Loranna, having been talking with Slyvos in the Mage Guild, has just been alerted by the sound of a scuffle, and is watching Tos'un and Cycrius be led off by guards to the local slammer, where they will get to tell their story to a constable and, hopefully, spend but a short time in jail.

OOC Summary:

Didryn is outside the Mages' Guild in Westcastle, watching Tos'un and Cyrcius carted off to the local hoosegow, his dead arm beginning to attract flies. He is searching for a healer to help him with his arm.

=====

Due to Loranna's going all O_O at me, I am clarifying that 'dead arm' is an expression. glare.gif

Summary

Reichi is searching for a better suit of armor, and Tohe was watching Tos'un's fight untill the guards interrupted.

Stupid Guards.

Posted by: Teleran Apr 7 2005, 04:32 AM

Teleran is at the mages guild after witnessing Tos’un and Cyrcius getting dragged away by the guards. Nothing too important to be doing at the moment bar finding the witches coven and a cure for Illidan.

OOC: Arynel is currently at the library in Ald Raathem, reading http://til.gamingsource.net/mwbooks/lessrude.shtml

Posted by: Nalion Apr 7 2005, 11:04 AM

OOC Summary:
Nalion is currently in Westcastle, talking with people about the recent changes in High Rock and the current situation. Aside from this, he uses the library of the Mages Guild to do research.

ooc: Please remember that you cannot describe your actions as affecting another character without the other person's permission. "I punch someone in the stomach" = wrong. "I try to punch someone in the stomach" = right. If it keeps happening I guarantee we have ways of enforcing the rules and it won't be pretty.

Tris has been running errands.

Allerleirauh is working to reestablish the Tribunal temple and the city of
Vivec, and caring for Sen-Yedda.

Westcastle

Loranna briefly confers with her other companions who were also watching Tos'un and Cyrcius get carted away.

" ... Okay, we'd better go look into this," she says with a small grimace. "I'll go to the jail and see if I can't talk to the authorities about this, or at least find out how long the new guy's going to be locked up. If Tris or Rodastyr or Dante happen by, fill them in on what's going on. I'll be back soon."

" ... But before I go ..." she adds, turning to Didryn, "Dear, we can't have you walking around town with your arm all out of sorts like that ..."

A few moments later, Loranna finishes casting her healing spells, and leaves Didryn a healing potion. "That should take care of it; if there's any more problems drink the potion and let me know when I get back."

Then, she heads off to the local jail.

The local jail-

Outside the local prison, a young Breton man...dressed in the attire of a guard sighed. It was always his job to deal with visitors, and he disliked it greatly. Once he had approached the woman, he asked. "Evenin' ma'm, care to tell me why you're here?"

Loranna's smile dims somewhat, as she thinks to herself A man who loves his job, I see.

"Well, we're a bit new to the area," she explains. "I was wondering what the usual sentence for such an altercation was here in Westcastle, if there's to be a hearing or anything ... that sort of thing."

Loranna makes a mental note to learn how not to sound so clueless in the future.

The guard took a long, deep breath, then let out a disturbed sigh. "As far as I know...look, I'm not going to lie to you. I don't know anything, I don't even care. All I have to do is stand by this stupid little door and accompany people inside. Same old routine, all I know is that people go in, and I stop them from coming out 'til I hear otherwise...but, I could probably get somebody who does know."

Without awaiting Loranna's answer, the young man left inside the building, shortly after an older Breton emerged. "My...co-worker tells me you wish to know how your friends can be pardoned? Well...there is certainly one, easy way of doing that." He said, coughing.

Loranna keeps herself from raising her eyebrows, not specifically recalling asking about how to pardon Tos'un.

"I see," Loranna says, guessing as to the older Breton's meaning. "I'd be interested in dscussing our options, yes. To whom do I have the honor of addressing, good sir ...?"

"Jodier Maniel." He answered, giving a small bow. "We'd be happy to discuss options, if you'd just follow me." The man led Loranna inside the building and down a hallway, cells occupying either side, until they finally reached a small desk at the end of it.

"It isn't the most private of offices, but it'll do."

Jodier sat down at the desk, and fitted a small pair of glasses on his face. "Well..." he began, smiling a little, "You could appeal...take it up with the constable himself, but appointments are hard to get. And this isn't really the type of thing he concerns himself with.

"Other than that...I'm not sure, though some of us may be able to make an arrangement for a little added incentive." When he said this, Jodier looked up to the roof innocently, humming.

Two heavily muscled guards in their lower forties burst through the door of the prison, holding between them a stringy, strangly grey haired Breton, who was twisting around in their grasps like a worm on a hook.

"I see," Loranna says after a few seconds of debating just how to respond. "The constable sounds like he's quite the busy man, then."

Under the table, she counts off several hundred septims, saying as she does "I think he would prefer we settle this matter without disturbing him, don't you agree? After all, no one got seriously hurt in the altercation and, from what I had gathered, it happened over a simple misunderstanding. I'm sure if I spoke with the two gentlemen we'd be able to keep this from happening again."

Having finished counting out her bribe, she passes it to Jodier under the table. "Would that be an acceptable arrangement, sir?"

The Void, overlooking Westcastle

Tris had dusted off the worst of the gardening dirt, and his dignity, as best he could. He thought about returning to Solunastra for a bath. But he was late already. And looking over Loranna's situation, he thought it might not be a bad thing that he'd decided to show up.

He stepped out of the Void in an alley between two buildings and introduced himself to the blase guard at the prison door.

"I believe my friend is in there, a young lady, red-headed?"

The man looked at Tris, the same look he gave Loranna not too long before, he sighed. "Go on in..." He started, "She's probably talking with Jodier, pretty easy to find. His desk is down an immediate hallway once you enter." The man stepped aside and opened the door, which had almost been broken off it's hinges beforehand. He seemed to be deliberately taking his time.

Loranna turns to see what all the ruckus is about, wondering who the struggling man is.

Poor man ... she thinks to herself, before realizing that, for all she knew, the older Breton could be a murderous bandit who burned down farmhouses for fun.

The wrangly grey haired Breton man, red in the face, suddenly burst into song.

Verily, Verily I come now offering charity
While nobles practice high obscenities
I go ‘round spreading joy so liltingly

"Oh, I am quite sorry about that." One of the guards said, holding tightly onto the strange man. "It seems his mind has left him, we're locking him up so he doesn't hurt himself, poor fellow."

The red faced old man burst out again

What a chore, what a chore
Little Nordic once a demon --
What could be her hearts desire....

Before he could continue, the second guards hand went over his mouth, and they began to drag him away.

"We were discussing the incentive for releasing the two gentlemen from the Mage Guild and the Breton man to be taken to the
temple of Stendarr," Loranna says, placing slight emphesis on the word Stendarr.

"I believe we were agreeing that the constable didn't need to concern himself over these matters ... his wisdom is admirable," she adds, handing Jodier another pouch under the table, one with about twice as much gold in it as the last.

Loranna makes a mental note to buy more pouches to hold bribes and gifts to needy people; she's on her last one.

The old Breton burst out into song again.

Little Nordic, fiery like Dibella
Prominent a lover a good for a fellow
I can see your true desire
That they would gather round, more so than the fire
And you their center darling queen
Forever young, golden and green

"Again, I apologize." A guard said. "We'll go take him to the temple then."

Another outburst.

Socius knows your hearts greatest longing
That you could be so wonderfully alarming
To set off the men, and the womenfolk too
Let me free from this place, and for the right price
I’ll make it all true

The two guards began to drag the strange old man to the door.

Jodiel gave Tris a quick glare, before accepting the second pouch from Loranna. "Right...Stendarr." He said, blushing a little.

The man fished through his pockets and retrieved a ring of keys. He then proceeded to approach one of the cells, where upon he opened it, and a guard forceably removed a small Bosmer man from it. Jodiel continued to the next cell, where a Dunmer Half breed was removed.

"There, they're free to go. If anything like this happens again though, they won't be getting off so easy, I promise you that."

The old Breton sang another off key verse.

Give me a secret, a gift of most value
Something that says a great deal about you
I will take it back to my homeward position
And there I will work to make a potion most delicious
That will make you to set their hearts fluttering
At merely a wink or any such sputtering

The guards said nothing, but shook their heads and dragged him closer to the door.

Another verse.

In three days time I should be ready
And I will find you and all you must give me
In exchange for such a wonderful treat
Is to drink my sweet potion so that my own eyes may see

The old man and the two guards were out the door, which came to a shut behind them. The old Breton man could be heard singing outside, but his words were inaudible.

"Thank you," Loranna says, her smile radiant.  "You've been a wonderful help, dear; may your days be blessed and happy."

She looks to Tris, saying "Shall we see our old companions off and our new companion to the temple?"

*

"Right," Tris said. He thought, but didn't say, Assuming he hasn't vanished into thin air...

The strange old man would presumably be around if Loranna accepted his offer, however.

He pushed out the door, looking for the guards and the old man.

"Well then, if you insist." One said, pushing the stringly Breton towards Loranna. "Do be careful, he might be dangerous."

The second guard said nothing but nodded to the affirmative.

Tris frowned, and studied the man in front of him.

He could cast a paralysis spell if he needed to. But he wanted to see if the fellow would say anything else first.

Loranna catches the older Breton, and looks at him intently.

" ... Sir," she says quietly, "you've made me an offer ..."

She closes her eyes for a moment, taking a breath before opening them and looking at the Breton again.

" ... Good sir, I was to dance with someone, once," she says quietly. "Circumstances interefered, but would you like to dance with me? I ... do not feel I can accept your other, generous offer, but I would dance with you if you would like."

The old man looked at Loranna.

"You mean you having nothing to give old Socius? What a pitty, I'm afraid I am no good with magic without a trinket of sort. Very well then. If you would change your mind, my dearest, only return to this place and knock three times upon the door."

The old man winked, and vanished.

Tris promptly cast a spell to dispell magic on the area. Nothing happened, as he had suspected.

"Well, I hope no one's mad at us for losing the prisoner. What was that about, do you think?"

Loranna mutters " ... I don't know; it sounded much like the sort of deal we'd expect from him, or so I thought, but ..."

"But ..." Loranna never fully finishes the thought, turing instead to look at Tris with sad eyes.

" ... And the funny thing is," she says after a moment, out of earshot from the guards, "I had just been talking to Slyvos about how I still have a bit of the wanton barwench in me, and I was thinking on how I don't necessarily mind being such but was afraid of letting it get out of hand ..."

"Actually I was more worried about becoming a destroyer of hearts who set off to conquer Tamriel through provocative dancing and lots of absorb magic mixed with charm spells to keep people enslaved to my will," Loranna deadpans. "I'm tired of the flame and destruction routine and wanted to try something different."

Slowly, she chuckles. "Tris, you're right. I'm more afraid of losing sight of love by letting lust grow too strong, but then, as we all know and see every day - I'm nuts."

She leans over and plants a kiss on Tris's cheek. "I have another kiss for Ciel if you'd not mind conveying it," she says. "How is Ciel doing, by the by? I've been thinking about him while we've been touring High Rock."

"No such thing as lust being too strong," Tris said. "Of course, that's me talking, and I rut like a goat whenever I can. If you lose sight of love, that's a flaw in your love, not your libido."

He batted his eyelashes at Loranna, then burst into laughter.

"Ciel's fine. He's a little distracted. He's got a lot of work to do, catching up on the business of the place - he's our seneshal now. So, a happy ending, we're both under one roof and comparatively few people are trying to kill us."

His words struck him as ill-omened; he amended them. "A happy beginning, I hope. We're far from done yet."

"Then a kiss for him," Loranna says, planting another kiss on Tris's other cheek. "I leave it to you to decide how best to transfer it."

She pauses a moment, thinking. " ... I think I see; yeah, you're right. I'll have to write some psuedo-pithy note in my journal later about love, libido, and beauty ... but for right now, I'm thinking we should turn our attentions to other matters."

She adds as they walk off "... You know, I sometimes wonder if we'll ever be truly done ..."

Finding the constable's offices and home were not too difficult; most people on the street were able to offer directions. Tris and Loranna find their way in a short time, and arrange for a meeting with the constable at his residence, to discuss matters of mutual interest with Loranna, Tris, and company.

As he was dragged off to the local jail, Cyrcius muttered to himself about crazy Dunmer who spent to much time at mountain monasteries under ice-cold waterfalls. After being unceremoniously thrown into one of the jail cells, he sat, cooling his heels and wondering if he really could have gotten the Dunmer in a sensitive spot with his throwing knives. After considering this, and remembering for certain that it was during his rather unpleasant expriences in Skyrim where he had seen the woman, one of the guards hauled him, and his "dancing" partner out of their respective cells. As he watched a crazy Breton and a low level clerk speak with the woman, who seemed to have bailed both him and the half-Dunmer out of jail, he approached her. As he walked behind her, he inquired in a polite voice "Have we met before miss? I could swear that I have seen you before, in Skyrim I believe."

Loranna turns to look to Cyrcius, frowning slightly. She makes a mental note to alter her facial features more the next time she adopts a disguise.

"Skyrim?" she asks, raising her eyebrows. "Hmm ... it's been a while since I was last in Skyrim I fear ... please, call me Grier; to whom do I have the honor of addressing?"

Westcastle

After having thanked Loranna for healing his arm, Didryn went and found a place to rent a bed. He was not incredibly used to any part of him healing that fast, and it caused his arm to be very numb. He tossed the owner of the inn a few septims, unlocked the door and went in. He then set the healing potion Loranna had given him on the table next to the bed and lay on the bed, waiting for his arm to regain feeling as he slowly drifted off from fatigue.

"That's quite the eye for detail you have if you noted my way of walking and speech from afar like that," Loranna comments dryly, thinking to herself that she really must take some acting lessons soon if she was going to try actually going around disguised.

"Well met in any case good Cyrcius, well as well met as one can hope under the circumstances," she continues. "What brings you to Westcastle?"

Finding myself on High Rock's lovely shores, I decided to take a hiatus from my... acting troupe, and where should my legs take me but the fine city of Westcastle. I saw you asking about a group of crones I believe, and decided to follow you to see if i remembered where I had seen you before. I decided not to ask, to avoid embarrasment. I was waiting outside the Mages Guild, wracking my memory, when your tall companion assaulted me. By the way, he has a Chameleon Ring of no small power, as he attacked me unseen. Grier, you said your name was, well let me treat you to dinner, or at least a snack, as a small thank you for bailing me out of jail."

First we meet Rodastyr, and now we meet this gentleman, Loranna thinks to herself. Something about High Rock must bring out the poetic side in a man or mer; that might explain Arynel's gift for words ...

"A most intriguing tale," Loranna says aloud. "Your thanks are warmly accepted; a small snack would be nice right now, and perhaps, if you would be so kind, you could tell me a bit more about the performer's art? After hearing your tale I find myself quite intrigued ..."

While heading for a street vendor, Loranna asks " ... So, now that you have arrived here, what are your plans, Cyrcius? Will you be leaving to travel elsewhere, or staying here in Westcastle for a time?"

Loranna turns to Tos'un. "Er, you're welcome dear," she says, "... though you do know that, when in a city, it's often better to ask questions before using physical force, right?"

As to your question Lady Grier, I have worked as a traveling performer ever since the troupe I traveled with performed Horror of Castle Xyr and the Telvanni in the audience thought we were making fun of him. His next spell would have taken half the troupe out if the Argonian playing an Imperial Guardsman hadn't knocked him senseless with a stage sword. I have no set goal in mind, traveling where my feet take me and making money as a private performer." "Well, tell you what," Loranna says. "Let's go get ourselves a more proper meal and we'll explain it ..."

Stopping by the Mage Guild to pick up anyone waiting over there, Loranna leads everyone to the nearest tavern, whereupon over a meal of fine meats and good drinks, she explains the situation:

"We have a friend, Illidan, who was turned into a vampire against his will a short time ago," Loranna explains, sipping her mead. "Due to the Azurite situation, we weren't able to do much about it until recently, but our sources told us that the witches coven that met out by Tamrayin Point knew of a cure for the disease. We've since tracked the coven here to Westcastle, where they are reputedly under the protection of the constable. We're to meet with the constable later to confirm this and hopefully set up a meeting with the coven, to negotiate for the cure."

Solunastra: Allerleirauh

Allerleirauh found that the worst part of having Dragon retire as her seneshal was that she missed the company. Ciel was conscientious and efficient. Maybe a bit too conscientious. But she hadn't known him for twenty-two years, she didn't feel comfortable sitting with him in her undergarments talking as she got ready for her day. And as polite and reserved as both of them were, it might take years for them to learn to relax around each other.

Sen-Yedda's golden eyes followed her around the room as she dressed, singing a nonsense song for the baby. Sen-Yedda had blossomed nicely; recently she had progressed from tiny whimpers and cries to shrill squeaks of glee, uttered at the slightest provokation. Allerleirauh suspected her of having her father's sense of humor; an alarming proposition.

The squeaks escalated to a single, louder yelp - a demand for attention.

"Yes, I hear you, fussy girl," Allerleirauh said, sweeping the baby into her arms. There was a knock on the door. Ciel was right on time.

"Come in," she called.

Roggar Forkbeard sat at the table with Loranna, Cyrcius, Tos'un, and everyone else. Despite wasting almost all of his septims on ale, he was still somewhat conscious and could somewhat comprehend what was being said, but everything was blurry to him. The effects of all the Mead were starting to get to him.

Tos'un was also sitting at the table,(as afore mentioned) and he was chewing a bit of venison that had some spices on it that made his tongue do flips because of how exuberant the flavor was.

A quiet inaudible word was exchanged outside and then the door swung open revealing the graying haired Breton knight. He always dressed more formally than typical for the guild house. Bowing as he stepped into the room, he spoke.

“Fair morning, Lady Allerleirauh,” he said and then gave warm smile to the baby. “And to you, little Lady Sen-Yedda as well. I believe I have found a suitable nurse and companion for you.”

He looked back to Allerlierauh.

“They are waiting without, is now a good time to introduce them?”

The door of the tavern came open and in walked a Breton who was dressed in simple travelers clothes, the hood of his cloak pulled up over his head.  He paused for a moment, scanninng the area, then took a seat near the back of the tavern.

*

Loranna had become somewhat better at keeping an eye on who comes and goes in strange taverns, and notes a familiar-seeming figure enter and sit down near the back.

She glances over at the figure, eyebrows raised slightly.

QUOTE(Solin @ Apr 7 2005, 10:23 PM)

A quiet inaudible word was exchanged outside and then the door swung open revealing the graying haired Breton knight.  He always dressed more formally than typical for the guild house.  Bowing as he stepped into the room, he spoke.

“Fair morning, Lady Allerleirauh,” he said and then gave warm smile to the baby.  “And to you, little Lady Sen-Yedda as well.  I believe I have found a suitable nurse and companion for you.”

He looked back to Allerlierauh.

“They are waiting without, is now a good time to introduce them?”

*

"Now is an excellent time, in fact," Allerleirauh said, smiling. "Let's see what the little girl thinks, it's really her choice."

Ciel had been interviewing applicants for some time now. But Sen-Yedda found something to reject in almost all of them. She was picky about smells.

The figure looked back towards Loranna, but said nothing. He began to trace the pattern of the wood grain on the tabletop with his fingers.

"Excuse me," Tris said, smiling at Loranna and rising.

His first impulse was to go over to the table, bow formally, and ask if they knew each other. But he decided against it.

"You're the only man I know who can walk into a tavern in the middle of nowhere and not even blink as he passes his friends. May I sit down? Or did you come all this way to be alone?"

"You only sing about trouble? That explains a lot about you really. Obviously you need to find another profession!"

Tris sat down and beckoned a barmaid over. He was drinking wine, since they were, after all, in High Rock. Menevia's wine wasn't the best but it beat everything in Vvardenfell.

Arynel chuckled, and then snapped his fingers.

"Ah, yes, I have one." The Breton said, a lute appearing in his arms.

What a day what a day
I find myself to spend today
With nothing so ever on my mind
What a day what a way
To spend an hour or two away
Wondering at what gives a book its spine
And all the lads they go out courting
The pretty lass they come to call
And like a river on by she’s flowing
Gives them a drink but never the fall

What a year and so queer
That I find has brought me here
Placed me in my present situation
Be it fate or mortal states
Of intertwining willpower freights
And all the lads they go out tilling
The pretty girl the hope to find
With her hair all full of lilies
But more than a scent she always denies

What a day what a spay
Digging down into the fray
As we work and break our backs
To make a living as they say
What a day that’s the way
It goes when you want pay
Honestly for your food and your clothes
And all the lads they go out and buy
Diamonds and jewels and pearls
So they can get that pretty lass
To join them for the show

"Jalian," Ciel called. "Please come in so I may introduce you and the lad."

A moment after the call a young woman stepped through the doorway with a very young child not far behind her. She was dressed in blue and green dress of common make and wore a faded purple cloak over her shoulders. She was dark complected, it was obvious that a Redguard had been a part of her recent family linage. The boy wore a grey shirt and plain brown trousers. He couldn't be more than a few years old.

Jalian looked first to Ciel, then to Allerleirauh, then about the room, and finally returned to her potential employer and the child she held.

"Allerleirauh, this Jalian and Thetri Hawkford, recently of Cathcastle," Ciel introduced them.

"Milady," Jalian said with a curtsy. Thetri remained silent standing slightly behind his mother, his eye were firmly locked on Sen-Yedda, wide with awe.

Loranna listens to the song, facing away from Arynel and Tris for the moment; a thoughtful frown crosses her lips.

Arynel's singing was pleasant, as always, but she wonders what, if anything, prompted this particular choice of subject.

... When was the last time you actually understood what he was thinking? Loranna chides herself. She turns to face Tris and Arynel again, smiling a little and raising her tankard of mead in a salute.

"You have another child? or..."

Wet-nurses came in two flavors. Those who had a young child of their own and were so poor they were willing to split the milk supply with a stranger, and those whose children had recently died.

She nodded, swallowing hard, as she accepted the little god-child without pause but with care.

"I lost her and Thetri's father not long ago," Jalian said saddly as she looked down at Sen-Yedda. "The local conclaves grew desperate when those blue-eyed devils disappeared and the huntings and bounties didn't."

She bit her lip, tears clung to the edge of her eyes.

"Blood is power they say, more than have our herd was put to knife as was my husband when he tried to stop them from taking our little girl too," she sniffed. "That's why I'm here, Allerleirauh."

Still looking a little saddened she put on a smile for the child in her arms. Thetri clung to her dress, eyes darting about the room now.

"I'm so sorry," Allerleirauh said. "I lost my own two little ones long ago."

Sen-Yedda grabbed a fistful of dark, coarse hair and stuffed it into her mouth, then let out a sharp yarp of boredom.

"That's the best reception anyone's gotten so far," Allerleirauh said. "Thank you, Ciel. If you'll leave us now."

She gave him a smile which meant, we'll go over her references together later. Not that she didn't trust Ciel; that was one reason things were taking so long. To take another person into Solunastra was a risky proposition, and Ciel had good reason to know that.

But I'm sure the next time you ask me that the answer will be far, far different."

Ciel came in at bedtime to find Tris scrubbing his fingernails hard, with a brush, over the washbasin. His usually neatly manicured nails were battered, and caked with black dirt.

"I'll tell you," he said, without looking up, "That's the last rose I pick from someone else's garden. You should have seen the scratches on my hands before I healed them. And she wants me back in the morning, says I didn't finish the job."

"Well, I missed him on the day I got caught, so I gave him a sonata and a rose the next day to make up for it. I know, I know, I'm courting disaster. But it's my duty, and I don't just mean it's my duty to court disaster, which is what everyone expects of me, I mean he's a very lonely man and he doesn't know why. Elysana... doesn't it make sense, when you look at it? He's one of the unpathed. Everything's grey to him, and then this one woman moving through it like a blaze of color, setting fire to everything around her. I know how it feels, I remember seeing her as a little boy, on her wedding day. I just thought she was pretty. It wasn't until years later that I understood what I was seeing. Anyway I have to try with him, and this is me trying. Am I making sense?"

"He's alive, he's almost awake, he's so close to the world of the real he can taste it," Tris said. "Oh, I'm no good at this. You need Allie, or maybe Arynel. I don't know how to say what I mean and I always end up scaring you. But that's why Herwyn fell in love with Elysana, because he saw her and knew there was someone there. Most people just follow the paths laid before them; they aren't real. Although they can become real. Like you and me."

Arynel nods to Loranna, then turns his attention to Tris.

"I do say, my scalp is not nearly of such quality as one would think to take it." The Breton said. He then added, "and I would not think of showing off, I was only doing a small favor, for her sake and my own."

"Alright," he said finally. "How are you going to push him over into the 'real' then? A flower every day? Will that do it?"

His brow was furrowed as he tried to absorb what Tris was saying.

Loranna, meanwhile, stares into the mirror, looking beyond her own eyespan.

She finds herself looking down upon Sen-Yedda, held in the arms of a woman she does not recognize - a young woman, one with some Redguard blood in her by the looks of it. The scene causes Loranna to place her hands to her lips for a moment, hiding her smile.

Little Sen-Yedda; already are you making new friends? she thinks, her tone growing playful. Drink up the love and attention dear one; you seem to be in good hands ...

Loranna gently touches the mirror with her fingers, as though to pass her kiss on to Sen-Yedda. With one last, sad-yet-joyful smile, she tucks the mirror away very carefully, looking back up at Arynel and letting her smile convey her thanks.

Ciel jaw went a little slack and he quietly said, "I see. No, not over much."

"My wife?" he asked eyes arched in a mixture of surprise and curiosity. "The tower I was castellan of, it's in eastern Wayrest. A squat slab of stone erected on a hill with a view over the Bjoulsae."

He paused a moment.

"There's a consecrated spot not overly far from there, a grove in the woods filled with stone markers. She was laid to rest there. Why?"

Tris was quiet a moment, as if picturing the spot.

"I'm going to be paying a priest of Arkay, I figured I should say a prayer or two for her. I owe her a lot. I've been thinking. About my past, about what a rotten little boy I was.

"Dom - I've mentioned him once or twice. He really loved me, or I really loved him, I can't remember which and it doesn't matter, does it? Anyway I thought it was pretty funny, I slept with someone else and he threatened to kill me, the greatest duellist in Wayrest, Domnar the Invincible, only he was shaking too much to stand up and crying too much to see. I laughed right in his face and handed him his sword. And then I walked out, still laughing, and never saw him again.

"He died a little after that, hanged outside of Crosswych Wood in Anticlere for murder, after he duelled the Duke's son. And they put him outside the walls, in unhallowed ground. Dom was religious - worshipped Mara - and I know he'd care. He had no family, and he wasn't the sort of man who really had friends. So I'm going to go up there and have him laid to rest properly. It's not much of an apology, now that he's dead, but it's what I have."

But Loranna wants to come too. Dom... no one has ever understood about Dom. I don't think I even understood at the time. It was like... imagine a tiger eating out of your hand. Like that. To have that kind of power over such a man. And he was noble, he wanted to be noble, but he was black almost all the way through. I can't help being sorry he's dead. Because surely someone ought to be, you know? And I doubt anyone else is."

Tris smiled. "I'll let you know before I do anything."

Didryn's Home Village

Didryn looked around. He could have sworn he was just in Westcastle, but now all he saw was several tents like the ones he used to grow up in. Then he heard voices from inside one of the tents. They sounded like they were trying to make someone feel better. He entered the tent, and saw several other Dunmer crowded around someone in a bedroll. He looked down and recognized his sister, Aahnslei, in the bedroll. She was trying to speak.

"Di... Didryn... I... be... I... beat you..." she said, holding up the bow he had made for her with a look of weak pride smeared across her little face. And just like that, she rolled over and stopped moving.

Didryn woke with a fully healed and movable arm. And an aching heart. He couldn't stand one more nightmare about his family. He stood up, slung his bow over his shoulder and began making his way to the nearest tavern. He could think there.

Cyrciuis watched all the events, not fully comprenhending what was going on. He understood their search for a cure for their friend. Even though he felt a deep significance about the child and their conversation, he didn't truly understand what was occuring. He waited till they were done speaking then asked "Lady Grier, you wouldn't mind me traveling with you for a time, would you? I have no other destination, and search for a cure for vampirism sounds like a dramatic and useful adventure. Also, you always seem to have interesting people and events around you. Traveling with you and your companions would be very interesting and educational."

As Didryn walks down the street, he is distracted by a merchant who is selling archery equipment. Didryn buys several silver arrows and decides to keep his own bow. He has been becoming more and more attached to it every day since he first met Teleran and found himself in this mess. After paying the shopkeeper, he heads to the tavern not very far from the Mages' Guild. He approaches it and walks through the door.

At that moment a young man of Cyrodiil entered the tavern in Westcastle. Dressed in simple Breton clothes and wearing a dark brown cloak with a fine pair of leather boots, he looked a notch better off than most but not by much. He was a merchant, perhaps, who had luck in businesses recently.

A moment was spent in the doorway as he glanced about the common room. His eyes lighted on one of the waitresses and his feet quickly crossed the room towards her. He flashed her a quick smile when she apparently recognized him and lead the Imperial to a table where he whispered something in her ear and sat down as the woman departed.

The woman arrived with two mugs of ale and slipped one to each of the seated men before taking a chair for herself.

Arynel offered a smile towards Lielle. "A pleasure to meet you."

He took a drink and leaned back in his seat.

Iulian laughed again.

“I suppose there are indeed!” he said grinning behind his mug as he took a swig.

He tossed a small sack which bounced on the table in front of Lielle. From the sound it made as it did so, it was filled with many coins.

“There you are dear,” he said to her. “For services rendered.”

Lielle only gave him a strangle look before pocketing the gold.

“You’ve got a lot of friends over there by the looks of it,” the woman said to Arynel. “Are you a troupe or something?”

Before Arynel could answer, a nearby patron shouted for more ale.

"Isn't that the luck?" she said frowning.

Lielle rose and left the Cyrodiil and the Breton to talk.

Looking around the tavern, Didryn immediately notices Loranna, Arynel, Allerleirauh, and Tris sitting in the same general area. He orders a water, still hating himself for drinking a Sujamma earlier at the Dirty Muskrat. Walking over to the table, he pulls a seat from a nearby table in the corner and sits backwards on it.

"I needed to get information about what's happening in High Rock these days. It's not that everything has remained what it was since I left 17 years ago. On the contrary."
The barmaid brought him a a piece of bread with a slice of mead on it, which he bit into hungrily.
"I haven't eaten today yet." He said apologetically. "When do we head off?"

"Seventeen years," Tris said. "That's a long time to be gone."

Tris was only 19. Nalion hadn't seen his home for almost as long as he'd been alive.

"It is," Loranna concurs.

To Nalion, she says "Finish your meal, and then we'll be ready to go. No need to bolt it, though."

Nalion simply nodded and his smile changed expression to sincerity - and a touch of sadness. His eyes were clouded for a brief and the mage seemed seemed to be absentminded. "I was just one year younger than you, at that time. Hot-headed, overconfident and in love. A combination that will surely lead to trouble. Oh, yes, and it has."
Nalion took a sip from his wine.
"There's an almost classical story. A boy falls madly in love with a girl he shouldn't even look at straight. Surprisingly, the girl shares his feelings and all seems well if there hadn't been her overjealous and ambitious noble father who wanted to marry her off for his own benefit. She got locked into the father's estate and the common boy feels his heart break. Hot-headed as he was, he broke into the estate at one night to fetch her. She said yes and they fled, not without causing quite some hubbub, which led to the death of a guardsman. Charged with murder and abduction, the boy and his love fled High Rock."
For some reason, Nalion found it was easier to tell the story in third person.
"The couple lived happily for two years until the girl died tragically by disease, which set the boy into despair and he began a long journey, aimless and homeless."
The mage looked up.
"The girl was called Lirielle, the boy... Nalion."
Nalion looked up, his smile returning slowly. He took the last bite of his bread and washed it down with wine. "There are things I have to put right soon." he told them, then looked at Loranna. "There are more pressing matters ahead now, though. I am ready whenever you are, ...Greir."

Tris smiled at Nalion. He had never thought of the older man as the romantic type before.

"We all have ghosts here, it seems. Grier, I've learned where they laid Dom, a little place outside Crosswych Wood. When we're done with Illidan's business, that's where I'm headed next."

He stood up.

Constable's Manor-

As the party approached the manor, the two guards standing watch at the door exchanged glances. The small, high pitched bark of a dog could be heard from inside the building.

One of the guards approached the group, holding his palm towards them. "Halt, and state your buisness...please." He said, the last word in his sentence pronounced with a great disgust.

"Armacks, sir." The man stated blankly, looking Tris over with tired eyes. "One moment...please." He walked through the manor door, leaving it open a nook, the barking from inside escalated some. From what could be seen, the man was consulting a book, seated next to the door. If one looked down, they could notice the source of the barking, a small dog, no larger than a Bosmer's shin sat in the centre of the doorway, barking repeadetly.

The man returned to the group. "Leave your weapons at the door, please. And do try to watch out for the mutt."

He formed a painful smile, "enjoy your stay!"

The dog backed away from people as they approached, but still continued barking.

The barking, unsurprisingly roused the attention of the Constable. "Would somebody shut that bloody dog up?!" He yelled, the sound coming from around a small corner.

Shortly, from that same corner a servant came to the group. Letting out a small gasp as she looked over the array of individuals. "The...um, Constable is just through there." She remarked, picking up the small dog and pointing to a solid door.

Loranna smiles at the girl. "Thank you dear," she says, rounding the corner. At the door, she knocks to the beat of a popular tavern song, glancing over at Tris with a grin.

Posted by: Teleran Apr 9 2005, 07:36 AM

As Teleran looked down at his chitin armor he thought it probably wasn’t the best choice for going to meet an official. Then again they didn’t seem to have anything of the type here in High Rock, maybe the constable would think it exotic. He looked up and tried to adopt an arrogant air as he walked down the hall. He completely lost it when he knelt to try to pet the retreating, barking dog, trying to calm it. He realized everyone else was headed to the door and hurried to catch up.

She pulls out one of the souls gems she carries, with a Golden Saint trapped inside. She allows the constable to touch the gem so that he may know what is trapped within.

"You see what resources we have," she says. "We can offer you a couple gems like this, in return for information that leads us to the wise women."

The man frowned, "I am not interested in Gems, miss. They don't pay the bills around here."

Outside the manor-

"Halt, and state your buisne-- BY THE NINE!"

"Oh for pity's sake," Tris said. "You have a mages's guild right here, you want the 80,000 gold or not? I swear if you make me walk across town to cash it in for you it will be half that."

Nalion lifted his gaze up to the constable's eye level and gazed directly at him. A frown darkens his face. He took a small step forward.
"What would you like better. The weight of many thousand gold pieces or a couple of convenient gems with more purpose than just paying bills. There is another option though."

Loranna's face had dimmed considerably at the constable's dismissal of her offer; she makes a mental note that offering a stupenduously valuable item does not always entice a person's greed ...

Upon hearing Reichi, she turns to look at him. "Not really; what is it?" she asks, her expression turning questioning.

“Well, if he doesn’t want them can I use one?” Teleran asked. “I’m sure we can find something he values highly and let him keep that instead.

“What Reichi, something outside? I heard something, couldn’t make out what it was though.”

The man, sighed. "Fine give me the damn gems, and I'll tell you about your precious wise women. The gems first, though.

True to his word, Iulian quickly finished his meal and after a polite farewell to Arynel, stepped out into the night.

Not long after the Cyrodiil's depature the tavern was entered by sereral burly Bretons, hey were obviously agitated and looking for someone.

"Someone said, 'Halt, and state your buisness' and stoppped that sentance short, and shouted 'BY THE NINE!'" Reichi said. "Generally, when stuff like that is said, its not good news..."

"Great ..." Loranna looks around the room briefly, noting the window. "My lord, better retire to a safer room than this; if you please?"

She stands up, already preparing a protective spell to shield the constable if anything got past the guards.

The mages expression got worried, but he soon recomposed his stance of arrogance.
"I wouldn't advise to leave him alone, Greir." he whispered to Loranna. "I think he's the person to know when to leave."

The constable grumbled as he stood, batting the small pom-pom at the tip of his night cap out of his face. "Alright, we'll head to the living room, shall we? That's safe." Without awaiting an answer, the constable left the room.

Somewhere around the house, the barking of the dog picked up again.

"Right," Loranna says, casting sanctuary and shield on the constable. "For your protection my lord; it never hurts to be careful ..."

"Someone accompany me to the living room with the constable; the rest, see what's got the guards," Loranna says, following the constable.

"Very well then, I'll head down and have a look at what is worth to call upon the Nine." Nalion answered and left the chamber. As he got out, the aura of arrogance was replaced by wariness and preparation. He made his way towards the origin of the sounds.

"Thankyou." He said, taking a seat in the living room. "I'll tell you about the witches..."

"They're in an abandoned mine shaft not too far out from town, my men put up signs and traps to ward off adventurers. For both party's sake, I think they've started practicing their spooky experiments again. I don't know exactly how they work so that's as much information as I can give."

"Is there anything else?"

"I believe that's all we need. Thank you, sir," Tris said. He cocked his head, listening for those outside.

"I'll see whats going on outside," Reichi said. Tohe smirked, "I'll stay in here, if they come looking for the constable in here, they'll get the business end of a Saber," he said.
Reichi headed off into the manor, drawing his Dagger of Senses, and his Daedric shortsword, which had finally gotten around to naming. He called it "Blood Fang" due to it's absorb health enchantment.

Hopefully the lights won't be out all spooky like....

Outside the manor-

The two men that had been guarding the entrance...were dead. Their bodies were sprawled on the ground, surprisingly far away.

The first corpse was mangled, and his skin had turned an unnatural pale colour. His eyes were wide with fear and his mouth was locked open. He was bloody all over.

The second body wasn't so bad, it had cuts and bruises all over, and was not so pale. In fact, it stirred.

Manor, living room-

The entire staff had fled into this room, for safety's sake. The servant, the chef, the three remaining guards...and, the dog. Which was still barking wildly.

Manor, Living Room

Loranna feels a twinge of fear, not so much for herself or Tris, but for the guards and servants; protecting her firends she knew she could do, but protecting non-combattants was trieckier.

"All right; here, I'm going to cast a regenerate spell on us all," Loranna tells the others, working her magic. The spell would last a decently long while, and while it wasn't as powerful as her best potions, it would at least give her a few more seconds in which to heal someone, should they get struck before she can react. She follows the regen spell with a sanctuary spell, mindful of the doorway leading into the room.

Nalion exited the manor, then stopped to look around, seeing the two bodies, of which one was still moving. He resisted the urge to approach immediately, though. He suspected a trap.
He brought up a magickal shield around him and twisted his sanctuary ring, then looked over his shoulder to look for Teleran and Reichi.
"I'll investigate this guard and see if I can help. Give me cover, please, if anything should happen."

Posted by: Teleran Apr 9 2005, 09:40 AM

Teleran quickly made his way around the manor to the entrance and found no guards there, no sign of them at all near the entrance in fact. He saw Nalion ahead of him and beyond him two pale corpses.

“Is he still alive?” he queried He pulled more daggers from their sheaths and sent them through the air to guard Nalion as he approached.
