The Elder Scrolls Forums _ Elder Scrolls Lore _ RP: Morrowind Moonlight

Posted by: Loranna Jul 15 2005, 05:59 AM

Hello, and welcome to our Elder Scrolls Role Playing threads, where we adventure and socialize in the vibrant land of Tamriel.

Before we begin, we'd like to clarify a few things:

This is an 'open roleplay' and everyone is encouraged to join in at any time!

'Open' roleplay does not mean 'unorganized' or 'limitless', however. The events in this story are usually planned, and if something BIG happens, you can be certain that it is the result of much discussion between players, usually in the mIRC chat (#Loranna_RP). This is not just a bunch of disorganized individuals doing what they think would be fun for their character at the time.

So, while everyone is welcome to join in, they are NOT welcome to jump in and do big, world-changing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST. Let me be very clear about what cannot be done without permission:

1:
Any action that effects another person's character, for ill or good. Although most people realize they can't harm another person's character without permission, many don't realize that you can't HELP another character without permission, either. Many characters have flaws for a reason. Don't go healing, saving, or otherwise fixing another character without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the player involved.

2:
Any event that would drastically change things that have been done to the world, whether the change is physical (rebuilding destroyed locations), political (converting a population to a new cause), military (killing off all the badguys) or anything else. Almost every situation, good or bad, that exists in the RP was done for some reason. Don't go changing or fixing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the group.
Everyone who is involved in the RP is welcome in the mIRC chat channel #Loranna_RP. If you have a plot idea then you are encouraged to go there and discuss it. If you cannot get on the channel for some reason, or if the player whos character you would affect with your plan is not there, then PM them using this board's PM function. That's what it's there for.

For information on reaching #Loranna_RP via Mirc or Chatspike, look http://www.ravensky.org/irc/.

Not following the above advice will only result in one thing: your post is likely to be completely ignored by everyone as if it did not happen. This is obvously not good for anyone, so please, discuss major events before doing them.

Remember: Secret plans and surprises are seldom fun for anyone else. Before they're revealed they're boring, because nobody knows about them, and afterwards they're just annoying, because nobody knew about them.
Thank you, and have fun!

OOC Summary

Reichi is with Shaka, Falco, Isidor, who are out helping a dunmer with her problems with some Imperial 'Bandits' who switched a good-luck amulet for a bad-luck one.

The Argonian battlemage Shaka is camping for the night near some daedric ruins before returning a lucky amulet to a farming family.

...summary: One and Ami have been busily moving to Ami's new and improved shop, just outside of Sutch. After several setbacks, mishaps, and the untimely death of their friend Genjii the duo have decided to try and live the peaceful life...however, destiny might have other plans...

Posted by: syronj Jul 15 2005, 06:23 AM

In the morning, they led the surviving Imperials to the farmhouse but kept them in the yard while Shaka returned the amulet. As the Argonian handed the true amulet of luck to them, he could almost see the health returning to their eyes.

The party was as good as its word, letting the Imperials continue to Cyrodiil, though disarmed.

Shaka had not told the others that Thom had trailed them. As they walked to Ald Raathim, he could picture Thom staying on their flank. Lotus kept watch from the sky, slowly gliding in a circle as they walked to Loranna's castle, the morning sun gleaming off the bay.

As they walked, Shaka unwrapped the bad-luck amulet and glanced at it for the moment before putting it away. Hopefully the brief amount of time it would spend in his gear bag wouldn't cause serious problems; he wanted to check with Loranna on the best way to dispose of it. Shaka didn't want other unfortunates to find it.

Summary: Anya traveled with her new companions, helping were she could along with her cliff racer companion Lotus. Still a bit wary of Loranna, she has settle in a little better as of late.

IC: "Uh Shaka, we're not going to get any bad luck ourselves with that amulet, are we? Because, well, as you can probably tell, I don't have much luck to spare at the moment." Anya glanced at the satchel nervously, as the group walked back.

Summary
Nalion, a male Breton mage, currently stays at Ald Raathim. In the last days, he had taken particular interest in the construction of the new school in Ald Raathim.

Nalion sat on on a crude stool and watched the construction site where Dunmer were busy setting up the roof of the building. It was certainly not the largest one, but it would be sufficient enough to house the children currently in Ald Raathim and provide the space to learn. The Breton was not experienced in architecture and construction techniques, so he had decided to watch instead of being in the way of professionals. However, he thought he could be of help in a different way.

"Are you Nalion Leoriane?", an Imperial, clad in a dark blue robe, asked him while approaching. He was accompanied by a young lad laden with a pile of books. The youngling seemed to stagger a bit. The lad seemed to be sweating because of both the weight of the books and the Ald Raathim sun.

"Yes, I am." the mage answered.

"I have the delivery that you ordered. You are lucky that we were able to deliver these books in such a short time.", the Imperial stated arrogantly. "The scribes are very busy. Here is the bill."
Nalion rose and walked over to the Imperial. While his face showed a slight smile, he did not like the arrogance he was presented with. He took the bill from the Imperial's hand and held it a moment longer than necessary, looked into the man's eyes and raised an eyebrow. "It's quite warm here, isn't it? And your robe seems too heavy for this kind of weather."

The imperial's shoulders slumped a bit. "Yes, now that you mention it, it is heavy... and hot. Is it always like that in this blasted province?"

Smiling to himself, Nalion turned to the young lad and ignored the last comment.
"Now, carrying the burden of history, are we?" the mage smiled at him and patted his shoulder reassuringly, then he winked secretly at him. Nalion took some of the books from the lad and began walking towards his room.

"I will glance over the quality of the books in my chamber in the castle, if you would be so kind as to follow me. There you will receive the rest of the payment, too."
The Breton motioned to the couple with one hand to follow them. The Imperial walked rather slowly, wiping sweat from his face, whereas the lad kept up with Nalion's pace quite easily...

"Uh Shaka, we're not going to get any bad luck ourselves with that amulet, are we? Because, well, as you can probably tell, I don't have much luck to spare at the moment." Anya glanced at the satchel nervously, as the group walked back.

Shaka thought about it. "Maybe you're right, Anya. Loranna has dealt with far stronger magicka than this amulet. We'll destroy it ourselves."

He called over to the Nord. "Isidor, you want to do the honors? I'll scatter the pieces in the water. By the way, you and Falco were right about the battlemage. I'm sorry that I didn't listen to your instincts sooner."

Summary:
A lost imperial (Lost in his mind....), plaas follows teh group after they let him go. He attacked them.

Something about this group, just didn't seem right. Why had they killed those men, when they could have just disarmed them, why did these men have to be so lethal? Did they not have paralyzing spells or effects? Back at the camp, Reichi had pushed back somone, he had killed him instead of disarming him. Why would they choose to kill rather than to grab teh chance to let someone live? No matter who it is, they should be allowed to live at least until they get a fair trial. This was why Plaas dispised Isidor, becasue he needed to kill, he wanted death, he needed to snatch another life away from a son, a father, a mother, a brother, a sister, and a daughter. Without it, Plaas wasn't sure Isidor could live for much longer. He also had a short temper. Plaas wasn't sure about Reichi now, but Falco, adn Shaka he still liked. He would have to follow the group more. Before he decided when and where to approach the group again.

Thom watched carefully as the group headed back to Ald Raathim. He followed at a close distance, making sure to stay out of sight. Suddenly Thom saw the group stop and destroy the amulet in question. While they were just looking around, Thom figured he would mess with the group alittle bit. Shaka would know, but he could really confuse the rest of the group. Thom pulled his quill and paper out of his pack and wrote:

"I am watching you."

Thom smiled. He then pulled one of his silver arrows, punctured the top of note, and fitted the arrow. Thom took very careful aim and fired the arrow. It drifted high then fell, sticking into the ground right between the legs of Isidor. Thom moved quickly but quietly closer to the group, within hearing range.

Isidor felt the arrow fly past his head, but before he could move, it was in the ground. He pulled his axe, but then saw a note attached to the arrow. He turned to Shaka and said "Make sure no one shoots me while I'm bending over." He bent down and picked up the note. He read it's contents to the group and then said "Plaas. It has to be. Let's get back and warn Loranna."

Shaka said, "Isidor, it could be Thom. I didn't tell all of you, but he followed us from Ald Raathim. At the farmhouse, he said he'd stay and watch over the family while we investigated the ruins."

Shaka scanned the treeline but couldn't see the ranger. "Let's stay on our guard for now and keep walking to town."

Thom knew the temper of this one, so he chose his words wisely. "Yes, I do find it funny. But I do not mean to offend you, or any of your companions. I figured it was time to tell of my presence. I am only here to help. And help I will." Thom continued to move through the forest edge, keeping pace with the group.

Posted by: Aki Jul 15 2005, 08:25 PM

"I thought something was following us," Reichi muttered. "Didn't pay much attention to finding it though, geuss i'm lucky it weren't hostile." The Dunmer keep pace with Isidor and the others. He looked of to the general direction Thom was in, having gotten a sense of where he was from the Dagger Of Senses. "Why don't you come out and travel with us then? Instead of running around in the woods?"

"So your sure its him Olmicrin?"

"It could be no other...its him and the girl" answered Olmicrin

"You say you tracked them as far as Sutch?"

"Yes Alpha Rurio...now would be the time for us to---"

*Before Olmicrin could finish his sentence he felt the hard back-hand from Rurio...Olmicrin grimmaced, roared lowly, and returned to making his report...lip bleeding from his new found scratches...*

"Next time remember your place Olmicrin...I'm still the Alpha of this Clan..." ordered Rurio "so what more can you tell me "

"I have nothing more to report" Olmicrin answered as he licked the blood from his fingers

"Good I grow tired of hearing your voice Olmicrin...leave my sight before I rip your face off and feed it too my cubs" Rurio growled

"Before I go might I ask why you have it in for this Ansei?" Olmicrin asked

"Surely you jest" Rurio said half grinning "But if you really must know he poses a threat...not just to our clan but to every clan on Tamriel, however I've heard of one who was lucky enough to live"

"And who might that be, oh great Alpha?" Olmicrin inquired

"An outcast from a long dead clan...the white wolf...the will changer" Rurio replied "hmm...perhaps he will assist us...Olmicrin assemble the clan...for tonight we hunt"

"As you wish Alpha" Olmicrin answered as he set of on his task...

Thom looked in the direction of the group and said, "Well, better to be safe than sorry. If you have any trouble on the way back to town, a hidden person would be a good asset." Thom looked deep into the forest and saw two alit, grazing. Thom came out of the forest and approached the group. He whispered, "I will be back. I have seen some alit in the forest and could use the meat. I will meet you later." With that, Thom went silently back into the forest.

Nearing Ald Raathim, Anya spoke up, "Shaka, I'm going to go see Loranna bout Lotus. You showed some interest about him, and was letting you know your welcome to come along if you wish."

Upon entering the town, Anya asked a guard where to find Loranna. When she found out she was in her study, she headed towards it.

Knocking on the edge of the open door, Anya asked, "Loranna, since you're the only person I know that has knowledge about magicka, I was wondering if I could ask you a question."

Anya and Shaka find Loranna in her study, going over paperwork.

"Hello," she says, raising her eyebrows at Anya's declaration of not knowing anyone other than her who knows magicka when an Argonian Battlemage is standing right beside Anya. "What is it dear?"

"Well, I went to the smith you reccomended, Longhammer, and got my spear repaired. He did a rather superb job, and it's stronger and light than ever. But... it did something to Lotus. Watch."

Anya called Lotus and showed her the red markings along his ligh blue skin.

"The first time I called him, he came down in a light glow that almost looked like fire, but he's come normally ever since. But now he has these markings along his body. Shaka here thought they looking similar to most daedric markings, but his has me thoroughly confused. My spear did have a little bit of daedric material forged in along the cutting edge, but that's it. The rest is Dwemer, Silver, and a touch of Ebony, to make it duable as I can't really just pick up a new spear if I find one. Quite frankly, I don't know what to think of Lotus now, he's always puzzled me before too."

Lotus hovered for a moment, the beat of his wings blowing all three adventurers' hair or clothes back. The cliffracer picked a chair and perched on top of it, folding his wings.

The thing seems to be smiling, thought Shaka.

Lotus stretches his wings a bit on the chair, though the study doesn't really afford him much room. Loranna, meanwhile, ponders for a moment the strangeness of a sky blue cliff racer with red markings summoned from a heavily-modified spear in her study. She also, for the moment, ignores the papers now scattered on the floor.

" ... Well, I'm neither an expert on conjured creatures nor enchanting," Loranna demurs. " ... Let me look at this some ..."

She hesitantly reaches out to touch Lotus on the red markings, giving the summoned cliff racer a reassuring smile. "It's all right; I'm not gonna hurt you ..."

Loranna gently lays her palm against Lotus's hide, noting how warm his flesh feels to her touch. The warmth is more noticable on the red markings but overall, Lotus feels very warm to Loranna.

"His hide feels a bit different than what I remember other cliff racers being like," she comments. "Hotter, for one; different texture too. Hmm ..."

Up close, she looks Lotus over, noting slight differences in coloring that she didn't notice at first. His beak had a somewhat golden coloring to it, as opposed to the usual cliff racer color, and Loranna could see faint streaks of silver and black in the red markings.

"Well, my intuition is, he's been changed by the reforging of his spear," Loranna says. "I see faint traces of the new materials worked into the spear on him, and he feels like the fire of the forge has somehow become a part of him too. How exactly that manifests itself, I'm not sure; maybe he can breathe flames now, or is simply resistant to fire. Or maybe it manifests some other way."

"Not all magic is obscure," Loranna says with a brief flash of a smile. "Though if you like, I can ask Slyvos to take a look at the spear and its enchantment, just to be doubly sure. He's the enchanter, after all."

"Those are nice colors at that," said Shaka. "I might have thought it a 'dazzle camouflage' pattern, to make him even harder to spot while flying, but perhaps not. Maybe we'll have to see his capabilities when Anya is under attack, though I'm sorry to put it that way, elf."

"Not at all; those figures were getting a bit boring anyway," Loranna quips, picking up the papers Lotus scattered.

"Apparently you haven't been told yet about our fight with the Imperials . ..." Shaka went on to explain about Sadene and how Isidor had gone with them to help the farming family.

"He's back in town by now," concluded Shaka. "There's some bad blood between him and Falco, though I'm not going to pry right now. Falco seems more trustworthy lately."

Loranna gets the feeling that Isidor has not considered the possibility that he didn't destroy a cursed amulet so much as he let a cursed spirit out of an amulet. A profound feeling of weariness comes over Loranna, and she finds herself more concerned with Isidor's lack of dreams than about the fact that someone wanted him to kill her.

"Can you describe this figure?" she asks Isidor, pushing her other thoughts to the back of her mind for now.

Nalion nodded to Anya, rising his eyebrow at Shaka's usage of a title.
"Pleased to meet you, Anya. I am called Nalion."
Nalion was a Breton in his mid-thirties, with medium-length brown hair and matching eyes. The mage was of average height and was clad in a comfortable looking common robe of blue colour.

"Please, take a seat. I apologize for the mess, but I have to check this delivery. And it is not I that is about to start a school."
"I won't deny though that these books are meant for a school.", the mage added with a smile.

The Breton listened to Shaka's tale carefully, nodding to himself at times. However, as the story progressed, his expression seemed to become more worried.
"Enchantments are made by the usage of souls, don't forget that. And these souls are bound to the enchanted object. Yet if the object is destroyed...", the mage's voice trailed off in thought.

"Loranna already knows about this, I figure?" Nalion asked, not really expecting an answer. "We shall talk to her, now. Please follow me."

"Thank you dear," Loranna says with a smile, still mulling over Isidor's revelation about the person looking to off her.

For a second, she considers asking Anya if she's seen any suspicious Imperials or Bretons, then she thinks better of it; Anya was still new to Ald Raathim and wouldn't know the people here that well.

"I think he and I should talk privately for a bit; thank you again," she says to Anya.

"Err...is that supposed to happen Ami?"

"But...how?"

"Im not really sure about that part" Ami said "I think it has something to do with the simultaneous Enchanting, then De-Summoning...it seems to take on its own form...it's kinda creepy, like something designed it that way...or made it like that"

"So...how long will it last?"

"Usually an hour or so...but I'm sure once I'm more familiar with the spell I can keep it here longer" Ami says most confident

"Hmm...that is a neat trick...and it probably has some use, although what that is escapes me"

"I suppose your right Master One...but I will get better" Ami shouts

Nalion sipped on his wine. It was definitely a better vintage than was served in the tavern.
"Honestly, I would surely have liked to take a glance at this amulet, just out of interest. My curiosity takes the better of me at times.", the Breton answered with a smile on his lips.
"However, if it's destroyed, I can live with it, even with the underlying ghost problems - remember, Raithmat is our greatest and immediate concern here. The enchantment is broken as the amulet is broken. At least this Imperial can't exchange it with possessions of innocents anymore."

"I'm worrying a bit more about recent incidents within our group. There is unrest here, and I don't want people to be at their throats or squabbling over petty issues when there are more important things going on.", Nalion said honestly. "Even if some still have to prove themselves."

"Great. I would like someone to eat it, not jsut let the rest spoil. Follow me." With that, Thom lead Reichi to his small camp. He then started the fire and put in the meat to boil. After a short while, it was ready. Thom grabbed two of his bowls and a ladel and poured a couple of spoon fulls of Alit stew. He handed the bowl and a spoon to Reichi and said, "Here."

*

Reichi took the bowl, stopping for a brief moment to sniff it, as if smelling for poisons before begining to eat. "So, whats your name Serjo?" Reichi asked between spoonfuls of stew. "I'm Reichi Sari."

Posted by: f15tray22 Jul 16 2005, 06:32 AM

"Thom. Nice to meet you." Thom took afew spoonfuls of the stew and smiled. Alit was good, but Thom prefered guar. As Reichi downed the stew, Thom said, "Get as much as you want. You know, these creatures can be some of the dumbest, but they taste good."

Reichi nodded. "Nice to meet you to, so what brings you to Ald Raathim outlander?" he asked.

Thom thought deeply. "Well, I guess I just don't know. I was looking for my friend, hoping to find him away from Vvardenfell. I came upon Ald Raathim and decided to stay here a while. Sometime, even a Ranger needs a break, and this place was peaceful. Something inside just told me to stay." Thom smiled. "What about you?"

"Long, long, long story. But in a nutshell i'm here because my friends are. Besides any home i had in Balmora or anywhere else in Vvardenfell is not useable in the least. Not to mention Balmora probablly still reeks of Vampire," Reichi responded.

A gust of wind blew across the campsite.

Reichi caught something out of the corner of his eye that a lesser man wouldn't have. A lesser man would have been dead in a few seconds.

A Fine Spring dart flew past where his head was. He thanked the Dagger of Senses, then turned to find his attacker.

He noticed the unmistakable figure of a woman running away.

Thom's instincts kicked in. Thom quickly pulled his bow, fitted an arrow, and looked in the direction that Reichi was looking. Thom released the arrow, but it nicked a tree and stuck into the ground. "Who was that?"

*

"[censored] hell," Reichi cursed. "No clue," he responded to Thom's question. Reichi stood, both the Dagger Of Senses and Bloodfang drawn as he stood. He ran in the direction the woman had fled. She's so lucky it isn't nighttime. Woulda been dessert.

Posted by: f15tray22 Jul 16 2005, 07:00 AM

Thom saw Reichi run and followed as fast as he could. While running, Thom said, "Well, I guess thats a way to end a meal." As they ran, Thom put the bow on his back and pulled his Daedric Claymore named Orome. With Orome in hand, Thom dodged the branches and brush, wanting to spill blood.

Posted by: Issa_Yojimbo Jul 16 2005, 07:07 AM

The assassin's feet were light and swift, but Reichi's werewolf blood paired with the Dagger of Senses allowed him to catch up with her.

She turned and drew her wakizashis, only to be met with two more blades heading for her throat. She ducked under and tried to pierce Reichi's stomach as he bound over her, but he parried the blades with his own just in time. He recovered from the fall and faced his opponent.

"That stance" he thought, "Where have I seen that stance before?"

Posted by: f15tray22 Jul 16 2005, 07:12 AM

Thom watched as the assassin tried to attack Reichi. Thom made sure that Orome would be of use as he swung the massive sword with relative ease. It was an swing attack, which was easily blocked, but eventually the two of them could wear the assassin down. Right as he tried to attempt a follow-up attack, one of the Wakizashis cut him just at his side. There was little pain, it was just a scratch, but it did something worse than injure. It pissed Thom off. Thom then swung Orome yet again, continuing to fight.

Reichi then noticed the landscape behind the assassin, framed by the trees was a faint of Red Mountain looming in the distance. The sight of the mountain, combined with the familar fighting style, caused a memory to click. Issa, he thought, remebering the practice fight with the Dunmer at the base of Red mountain. But this is a girl, why does she fight like Issa?

Regardless, Reichi charged at the assassin, this time his attacks far more focussed on disarming or disabling her. He needed answers.

Posted by: f15tray22 Jul 16 2005, 07:20 AM

Thom saw Reichi tone down his attacks, focusing on the hands and arms. Ahhhh, he wanted her alive. Thom yelled, "Die!" and attack very fiercely, hoping to make her focus on him. Thom just kept swinging. He hoped he could give Reichi time.

Posted by: Issa_Yojimbo Jul 16 2005, 07:21 AM

The assassin swing inwards toward Reichi in a pincer-like movement. Reichi caught the wakizashis just near his head. He was in no place to strike at her. She had him pinned.

But killing her was no longer the plan.

Instead of trying to free himself, Reichi dropped his swords and in one fluid motion, grabbed the attacker's wrists and twisted them behind her. He kicked the back of her knees, bringing her to the ground. Thom held Orome to her throat.

Now, the tables were turned.

The Bosmer and the Argonian were walking through the late-afternoon crowd in the marketplace.

"Slyvos, yes.... He's a long story in himself, one I'm still learning," said Shaka. "He's Loranna's future husband, as far as I know. He looks like a Khajiit. I've heard he strongly resembles Jazbet, Loranna's late husband." It occurred to Shaka that he might have said too much already.

"Anya, I trust you enough to say this, but it's not for the citizens of Ald Raathim; it would just confuse them. Slyvos has an ancient soul -- that's all I'll say for now. It's enough to say that he's a more powerful mage than I'll ever be, as are the Bretons Arynel and Nalion. Loranna too, for that matter."

The two had reached the smith's longhouse. The glow of the forges and clang of hammers spilled into the street.

Posted by: Xyber02 Jul 16 2005, 08:00 AM

Anya mulled over what Shaka had told her, still not fully understanding all she had learned. What have I gotten myself into when I joined these travellers? she thought.

Anya stopped by the house she was directed to, but saw that Slyvos wasn't there. Slightly depressed that she was still without answers about Lotus, she hurried to catch up with Shaka.

"Wait up! Slyvos wasn't in. I'll need to talk to someone else now. Maybe Nalion. I don't know though. Anyway, I thought I'd just tag along with you for now. There doesn't seem to be much going on at the moment."

Shaka watched the Bosmer run back to the longhouse, her emerald Glass armor shining in the late afternoon sun. "I haven't seen him for a long time, come to think of it. I'll have to ask around the castle to see if Slyvos is even around Ald Raathim these days. I assumed he was keeping invisible on the boat we took back, but now I wonder . . .."

Shaka and Anya walked into the longhouse, their eyes gradually adjusting to the dimmer light within. He greeted the crusty Nord, who handed over Shaka's mix of Indoril, Glass and Ebony armor, as well as the Dragonbone Cuirass. All looked as good as new. Shaka didn't begrudge the smith Longhammer his drakes this day.

Anya marveled at the assortment of durable and rare armor. Strange how she never noticed it until now, despite the several days she had spent with him.

"You were in the Morag Tong, no? You were given a writ for one of our finest member's families. You felt behind too much evidence. We found all we needed, and I was sent to restore the balance."

Reichi ripped off her red scarf. The woman was dunmer with long flowing red hair. Her demeanor was icy cold. This was obviously not her first killing job.

The tavern still had some daylight coming in through the mica windows; the walls were thick enough to keep it relatively cool inside. Lanterns added more illumination.

"I'm buying the first round, Anya," said Shaka, and bought some scrib jerky from the barkeep as well. Might be better than drinking on an empty stomach, he thought.

He joined Anya at a round oaken table. The bard for that hour alternated between singing and playing a metal whistle. He seemed one of their better ones lately, his music the kind of melancholy that left the patrons feeling better rather than worse.

After a very short walk, Thom and Reichi emerged from the wood on the north side of town and then made there way to the entrance of the tavern. "Well, you go in first. In the back of the tavern and cloaked Breton was strumming a lute.

See them all round about
Little impish wild sprouts
Children dancing all day out in the streets

And the women of the town
They smile and wave their gowns
Flirting with whoever so they please

And the men act on a whim
When they’ve got a drink on hand
And in their bellies so they can’t stay on their feet

And so it is in Ald Raathim
In the taverns love or hate them
But no matter how you feel
About good conduct and appeal
The taverns are the best place for
Excitement and good rapport

Thom looked at Reichi and said, "Okay, I have been learning the woods around here, so I just about know where we are. Follow me." With that, Thom marched off to the southeast, moving quickly through the forest. After a very short walk, Thom and Reichi emerged from the wood on the north side of town and then made there way to the entrance of the tavern. "Well, you go in first. You know people here, I don't."

*

Reichi entered the Tavern, ignoring the strange looks he got for his less than normal appearance. Reichi's wolf fur armor drew attention like Chitin would in Skyrim, in other words, a lot. Beyound that his long and messy silvery white hair and crimson wolf-like eyes drew more attention than the armor. Reichi saw Shaka, Isidor, and Anya and waved to them. "Hey guys!"

"Hail, Reichi. Come, sit, have a drink. I'm just about to tell a tale. In harrowing detail." He winked. "On me first hunt in Skyrim, it was me, my father, and my drunken lout of a brother. My father was there for supervision. We had to catch a Wild Snow Wolf pack that had been harrassing our town. I was armed with a bow and axe, my brother the same. My father followed from a distance. After a while, he told us that he was going to stay at the fork in the road, whilst we went ahead. So we went ahead, my brother drinking mead the whole way. After a while, we happen upon the Snow Wolves, chewing on a Nord corpse. I drew my bow, and shot one in the back of the neck. It squirmed, then howled and charged at me. My useless brother stood by a tree, drinking."

Isidor stopped for a sip of his drink. "Aah.."

"So, the two wolves come at me, snarling like Hircine hisself. They come upon me, and my brother stands there, still drinking. I jump on one of them, then I cut it's throat. I shoot arrows at the other. After a while, they had both fallen, and I had proudly taken their hides, to make some armor. When we got back to my father, my brother took all the credit. I couldn't say anything, because he was older, and me father'd believe him."

Isidor shook his head, "Well, needless to say, he was killed the minute he left Skyrim."

Shaka smiled fondly at her.  "I'll have to remember another one soon.  Right now I'm sort of relaxing.  Can you tell us anything, or Isidor?"

*

"Well, that does remind me of a time I was hired to, er, borrow something of value from the Temple. Though it's not nearly as funny as you story Shaka." Clsoing her eyse for a second, she recalled that escapade.

"Well, they had numurous guards around this particular temple, som a simple sneak in sneak out plan wasn't going to work. I watched a pilgrim walk towards the temple, and that's when I had this good idea. I would impersonate a priest."

"Well, after I had aquired a robe, I entered the temple and began to snoop around for artifacts the temple was keeping. That's when an acolyte came to me. Apperently the head priest was a Bosmer as well, of all things, this was before I got my tattoo on my cheek."

"Well, so flustered that the priestess was late, I didn't get a chance to work my way out of it, and I needed to keep my disguise. 'You're late, you're needed to give the oath to our newest members.' This proved to be more difficult than expected, as I didn't know the oath, at all."

"As I started to spout whatever came to mind, it dawned on the other priests I wasn't who I looked like. When they asked for my name, I took some wine and flung it at them. Running off hearing them screaming 'Heretic!' all the while."

"That's when the acolyte summoned a Greater Bonewalker an everyone stopped dead in their tracks. Suffice to say, the temple gaurds more or less forgot about me, which left me ample time to gather the artifacts and some, ah, insurance as well."

"Later on, a satchel was delivered to me at the tavern, with some money in it. Apperently some necromancer had his student snooping out the temple, and they were so grateful that I helped them out, they payed me handsomely. And to top it all off, they never noticed the stole... borrowed items. All in all a good trip."

Thom had quietly entered the tavern after Reichi. Thom had took a chair at the table just beside the group. As Isidor was talking, Thom grabbed the dart out of his pack, the same dart used by the assassin, stood up, and put it down on their table. Thom nodded torward Reichi.

"That's the first time I'd heard about your family, Isidor. Sounds like you grew up in a place like Solstheim when I visited it -- a hard place." Shaka clinked tankards with Isidor.

"I didn't have it quite that bad. You know that the Argonians are tribal, and stubborn enough to still be in Black Marsh, outlasting the Empire and all other comers. It's just that I was the one who had to get out and see more of Tamriel."

"Good story too, sis. I forget that Vvardenfell is so full of intrigue that you can't swing a Khajiit without hitting somebody with an agenda. Glad you got away with it."

Shaka changed the subject. "Reichi, were you in a fight? It might scare the civilians less if you had put on a street robe . . . . Anyway, welcome."

Shaka looked at his cuirass for a moment, bone-colored but with a faint nacreous shine in the right light. "Yes, I usually have to wear a travel cloak when I've got it on. I'm going to take it off back at the castle anyway."

Shaka was silent for a second. "Our lives just got more complicated," he said. "This stays in the group, but there's a Dark Brotherhood assassin who helped Loranna's late husband in the past, Kethiah --- though she claimed to Loranna to be Morag Tong. Same in Black Marsh, Shaka agreed to himself. But he had left the tribes behind a lifetime ago.

"I don't really understand the assassin's mind either, Isidor. No offense, I hope, Reichi. But I've had to learn about dunmer culture, as little as I really know, just to survive and keep the slave shackles off."

"Spoil sport." Anya muttered, in a joking manner. Slightly enthralled with the thought of an assassin lurking about, she decided to stay for a while. She tended to like their mannerisms more than straight-foward warriors. They kept themselves out of harms way. They stayed silent and unnoticed. They made sure they had the upper hand before they attakced ensuring their own safety.

She had adopted this lifestyle on Morrowind. She tended to wander a bit, so she merged in some fighting styles, hence her spear. Useful in straight foward fights, but kept her at arms length from trouble. She used to use throwing daggers and the like, but grew rusty as people relied less and less on her skills and more of a mercenary. She was glad to pick up the bow, again.

Noticing her drink was once more empty, she ordered another.

The tavern was visited well these days, much to the delight of the inkeeper. Most benches were full and in the air hang a mixture of sounds and typical tavern scents of food and drink.

"Nalion. A pleasure to see you again. Of course, have a seat. I'm not busy at the moment." Remembering that she had wanted to see him sometime, she spoke up.

"Nalion, I have a question about Lotus, my cliff racer." She then proceded to explain the fire like glow of Lotus after the spear was reforged. His red markings, and faint silver and black markings. She explained how Loranna noticed the exceptional warmth to him and how his skin didn't quite feel the same.

"Over all, he hasn't acted different. But I'm not sure what to think. Both Loranna and Shaka think that the forging changed him, as the fire fits the picture. Loranna then sent me to Slyvos, but I can't find him anywhere. I remembered how you're known to be a powerful mage, and was wondering if you could figure something out they couldn't?"

As Shaka put on the more formal robe he had once taken from a Telvanni necromancer, he looked at the mirror for a moment and felt down for some reason.

Yeah, you're a real leader, he thought. Shooting his mouth off in the tavern like he had something to contribute.

And now this, more figures from Loranna's past, her old comrades' past. Still, Shaka felt he should ask Loranna and the mages about Issa.

Shaka locked the door to his room and walked to Loranna's wing. He asked the guards to ask Loranna if this was a good time to talk.

"Ah, Loranna mentioned your cliffracer. Truly interesting creature. I haven't seen him yet, nor the spear, so my judgment cannot be complete, nor do I think it could be. To be honest, I'm not a good enchanter. Some magic trinkets for personal use and some made to sell in the days I settled down for a time do not make one a master enchanter. There's still a lot out here I don't know of."

"However, it can be that the material of the spear influences the summoning. See, the enchantment is bound to the weapon - the material of the weapon. And if the material changes, it could perhaps change the way the enchantment works, too. I have to admit though, that I have not seen anything like that before."

Loranna hears that Shaka is looking for her and agrees to meet him in the study.  She smiles in greeting as the Argonian enters.

"Well met," she says.  "What's on your mind Shaka?"

*

"Well met, Lady," he said. "Reichi and Thom had an unusual encounter today with a Dark Brotherhood assassin . . . ." He recounted the fight with the one calling herself Blood Red, who seemed to have emotional or blood ties to Issa.

"It seemed to us that Issa might be the key to finding this assassin. I also thought I should warn you of Red, though her target seems solely to be Reichi."

"Assassins seem to be a somewhat popular item around here lately," Loranna says, thinking of Isidor's warning. "A woman who uses Issa's twin sword technique you say? Interesting ..."

She thinks. "I haven't seen Issa in a while; I'm not sure where he's gone, though I think he's still in Morrowind. I'll look into the matter, and thank you for the warning."

"Poor Reichi, though he is pretty good at handling himself," Loranna adds. "How did he seem to take the encounter?"

QUOTE(Nalion @ Jul 16 2005, 06:53 PM)

*

"You're answer remains largely what everyone else's is, though I am extrememly grateful for your input. With you confirming it, I can be reasonably sure what it is. I didn't bring my spear with me, as it can prove to be unweildy in certian curcumstances. And summoning Lotus might prove a ruckus here, with these people, as I found out in the library."

"I suppose I'll need to see this Slyvos if I'm to get any definite answer. But you've helped to point me in the right direction, thank you."

"He seemed to shrug it off, being his usual cocky self," said Shaka, smiling slightly. "I wonder if the assassin could be a relative or lover of Issa Yojimbo. Reichi said she was practically choked up when she called him 'little bird'."

Isidor sat in his room, still thinking about what the figure had said in his cell. "Certain people....want her out of the way." Something was going on. The attack on Reichi, the figure in Isdior's cell, and Reichi's past, all made Isidor apprehensive. He sat on his bed, deep in thought, and didn't hear the figure enter the room.

Loranna thinks back; she realizes with some chagrin that most of the time she spent talking with Issa, was more Azura than herself. Another person who she wished she had had more time to get to know.

"I'm not too familiar with his family; I seem to remember him mentioning his father once or twice, but not siblings," she says. "Then again, he had a way of being there one moment and then elsewhere the next. His sword Prophet's Edge could do ... interesting things."

You hold prophecy honed to a razor's edge ... she remembers saying, back when Azura used her voice. She wonders whether that was true or not ...

"You're welcome, Anya. But I want to stress it, it can be that way, but I don't know for sure. All I can offer is have a look into the matter more deeply and search for some books that may give hints.", Nalion answered and waved at the barkeeper to order a glass of water.

"I'm drinking more wine than I should recently, blame Loranna's excellent cellar. Some fresh water is good, too.", the brown-haired mage said apologetically.

Slyvos stood solemnly out by the shore again, in his usual spot, thinking to himself again.

'why do I even bother going on like this? this world is never going to change...'

He thought back to that time with the vampires, and he remembered something he once said himself... and he slapped himself on the forehead, saying the quote again outloud.

'every creature, living or not deserves a chance at redemption... and yet have I not understood my own advice? How stupid I have been these past few months...'

He turned towards the town, seeing it, while slightly in unrest, he could for once see the reason they could go on in this damnable world.

'maybe it is time I started to learn to forgive...'

He started off towards the manor, a look of understanding long since overdue long in his eyes.

"Of course." she answered, smiling. "Magic has proved to fickle for me to understand. I just accept most as is and leave most alone."

"Dear Nalion. Please, there is no such thing as 'too much wine', enjoy yourself." she added, smiling even brighter.

At last, Shaka said: "Thanks again for your time. I'm going to get something to eat." He studied the Lady of Daruhn for a moment, not envying her the responsibilities, before turning to go.

In the back of the tavern sat a Dark Elf adorned in chitin armor. Lifting up a long wooden pipe he would purse his lips around the end and open his mouth, blowing out little rings of smoke that turned into wafting tendrils entwining as they wove their way up towards the ceiling.

On his belt was an elaborately tailored Daedric dagger engraved with intertwining designs that wrapped around the whole of the blade even to the hilt, and the entire weapon seemed somehow to pulse with power when you looked at it from the right angle.

He took another puff of smoke.

Thom stood and made his way to the bar. "Three flin." Thom put some gold on the bar and took the flin back to his table. As he sat, Thom popped the cap off of the bottle and sipped the contents. Good stuff. Thom thought about the group that helped the family at the farmhouse. A realtively diverse group of people; Thom wandered what situation caused the banding of this group. He then realized that he had not met the obvious leader of the group. From what he pieced together, the Lady of the City. Thom rose and exited the tavern. He quickly made his way throught the towns streets and soon came to the castle. Thom entered the castle and asked a guard where to find Loranna. Thom followed the guards directions until stopped by a guard. "You cannot see the Lady right now. She has company." Thom smiled and said, "Thank you. I guess I will wait out here." Thom took a seat in the hallway.

Shaka almost passed the Imperial in the faded green armor before stopping. "Thom," he said. "So you're going to speak with her also. The Lady has a lot on her mind these days, that's all I'll say."

Shaka continued to the dining area to see what he could get from the cooks.

Loranna was halfway through writing letters of inquiry when she was told she had someone seeking an audience with her. Frowning, she puts aside her pen and inkwell and says "All right, show him in."

She smiles at Thom as he's led in. "Hello; I'm Dres Loranna. Welcome to Ald Raathim; what do you seek of me, serjo?"

"No, that's all right," Loranna says. "The paperwork will get done sooner or later."

"She motions for a glass of wine to be brought for Thom. "You say you've worked with our people already?" she asks, eyebrows raised.

Why didn't anyone mention that to me? she wonders.

Thom turned, took the glass, and said, "Thank you, ma'am. Yes, when they left for the farmhouse, I sort of followed them. Well, to make it brief, I help keep an eye out when they were doing the work. Well, then Reichi was at my camp when the assassin attacked. We captured her...briefly. All I know is that, it must take a great leader to organize that kind of group, with such diverse and strong skills." Thom sipped the wine. Great drink. "My name is Thom, and it was a pleasure to meet you. Now, I think I shall leave you to continue what I interupted." Thom bowed and exited the room.

Loranna is left with a slightly dumbfounded feeling; the words 'great leader' never seemed to apply to her. She was just a magnet for forceful personalities at most.

I'll have to talk to Reichi about that man later, she decides, feeling a little out of sorts by the abruptness of the meeting. She looks back to her paperwork and frowns, picking up the pen once more and twirling it in her fingers.

Shaka was nearly finished with supper when it hit him. I've sponged off Loranna long enough, he thought. If the deadline passes without Raithmat's ghost drowning Ald Raathim, I'll move on.

He put the fork down for a moment. The trouble was that moving on, finding a tomb to explore, didn't seem that promising.

Shaka had always prided himself on taking only artifacts that were ancient, whenever possible. Many times he had walked past the humble tombs with their few coins on top, or a chitin helmet, and left them. Every one of these people had someone who loved them, he thought, someone who left a possession to help them in the next world.

Shaka had once briefly admitted it to Solange: he was scared. He had already lost a step in recent years. His mortality was bearing down on him like a damned siltstrider. Today, a year from now, 20 years from now -- the same result.

Soon he'd be crawling to the Telvanni mages here on the mainland, begging for more life. How that would amuse them. It chilled Shaka to think of the price they'd demand; he might yet end up a slave. Shaka covered his face for a moment.

He stood up again and walked to his room.

Loranna blinks for one second, stunned, then pushes her chair aside as she covers the distance from the desk to the door in two steps. "Alert Dram and Kallen," she says as she hurries down to the town ...

She arrives at the tavern scant moments later, seeing the building intact but a lot of people standing around and jabebering confusedly ...

Inside, the innkeep looks around, having been semi-crouched. "Merciful Ayem," he breathes. "Thank you muthsera ..."

He stood there and continued to watch the tavern. Whatever was happening, his interference would only make things work. Crowds gathered around the building.

Nalion halfway turned towards Loranna, but did not take his eyes off the writings.
"Look at these runes. It seems they caused the trembles here. I have contained them, at least for the time being.", Nalion replied. "There was a Dunmer here who carved these in. Dram might want to ask the barkeeper for a description, and I'll give Dram my observations, too. I want this mer to be found, if possible, and alive."

The mage massaged his neck with one hand, then turned his attention to the inkeep.
"I suppose you have no need for this table anymore, Serjo. I think I'll need this one. Here's something to compensate your losses."
Nalion walked over to the inkeeper and offered him a handful of coins for the table and some of the smashed dishes.
