The Elder Scrolls Forums _ Elder Scrolls Lore _ RP: Morrowind Moonlight

Posted by: Loranna Yesterday, 06:07 AM

Hello, and welcome to our Elder Scrolls Role Playing threads, where we adventure and socialize in the vibrant land of Tamriel.

Before we begin, we'd like to clarify a few things:

This is an 'open roleplay' and everyone is encouraged to join in at any time!

'Open' roleplay does not mean 'unorganized' or 'limitless', however. The events in this story are usually planned, and if something BIG happens, you can be certain that it is the result of much discussion between players, usually in the mIRC chat (#Loranna_RP). This is not just a bunch of disorganized individuals doing what they think would be fun for their character at the time.

So, while everyone is welcome to join in, they are NOT welcome to jump in and do big, world-changing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST. Let me be very clear about what cannot be done without permission:

1:
Any action that effects another person's character, for ill or good. Although most people realize they can't harm another person's character without permission, many don't realize that you can't HELP another character without permission, either. Many characters have flaws for a reason. Don't go healing, saving, or otherwise fixing another character without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the player involved.

2:
Any event that would drastically change things that have been done to the world, whether the change is physical (rebuilding destroyed locations), political (converting a population to a new cause), military (killing off all the badguys) or anything else. Almost every situation, good or bad, that exists in the RP was done for some reason. Don't go changing or fixing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the group.

Everyone who is involved in the RP is welcome in the mIRC chat channel #Loranna_RP. If you have a plot idea then you are encouraged to go there and discuss it. If you cannot get on the channel for some reason, or if the player whos character you would affect with your plan is not there, then PM them using this board's PM function. That's what it's there for.

For information on reaching #Loranna_RP via Mirc or Chatspike, look http://www.ravensky.org/irc/.

Not following the above advice will only result in one thing: your post is likely to be completely ignored by everyone as if it did not happen. This is obvously not good for anyone, so please, discuss major events before doing them.

Remember: Secret plans and surprises are seldom fun for anyone else. Before they're revealed they're boring, because nobody knows about them, and afterwards they're just annoying, because nobody knew about them.
Thank you, and have fun!

Summary:

Loranna, and her companions, have just experienced a shift in reality, finding themselves in a world where Azura emerged victorious in the Blue Dawn. The heroes who used the Eiodolon to defeat her never made it, and now Azurites fight against Captain Cyndarius's men for Ald Raathim. Dres Jazbet, with his Lady Kethiah, control the castle, Jazbet's precognition making him a deadly foe, and the heroes were forced to flee to town, which Cyndarius's men control.

All player characters have escaped from the castle and are now safely in town. No player character has actually been affected by the transition to this reality, but no NPC remembers us - it is as if Blue Dawn ended with Azura winning and the subsequent events unfolded differently from there.

Oh ... it's also raining out. Cats and dogs.

OOC Summary

Reichi is in the Tavern, talking with the others.

Posted by: Nalion Yesterday, 06:18 AM

Summary
Nalion is presently in the tavern of the war shaken town of
Ald Raathim. He's recently been talking to Herwyn Brand and Slyvos. Since the arrival of Arynel, he hopes that they would come together and make the necessary decisions to mend the current situation.
In his possession are the Mythopoeic Archives, a book he has brought with him from his visit of Xarxes and which contains all the history of the companions and still records the events around them.

Posted by: Allerleirauh Yesterday, 06:19 AM

ooc summary: Tris Gaerington traveled to Firewatch to rescue Queen Barenziah... who was not in need of rescue, tough old bird that she is. He had a talk with Herwyn Brand about the Void. And now he's starting to wonder when Goranthir is coming back, and when Arynel will be ready to go.

Posted by: Dagoth Lich Yesterday, 06:20 AM

Summary: slyvos is speaking with Nalion in the tavern, and mentally thrashing his darker self for the disgusting thoughts it gave him.

QUOTE(Loranna @ Aug 21 2005, 12:06 AM)

Loranna was silent for a moment.  Ahjaar's story was not something easily replied to.

After a moment, though, she holds out her hand to Ahjaar.  "I understand," she says.

"Slyvos does not like who he used to be; if he could erase that side of himself, I'm sure he would," she continues.  " ... But, right now ... we've all been brought together to deal with this current threat; none of us would be here if we weren't able to work together."

She smiles.

*

She nodded. But something in her eyes told Loranna thats she still didn't completely trust Slyvos.

Allerleirauh's journal, date uncertain:

They were givers before they were liars. In the sweet sunlit childhood of our everything, when Arena was called Playground, and the Dragon did not even know its name - they were eight then, eight golden, and even now, sundered, they are glorious. They give the fruit its foison and the flesh its fire.

Come now, flesh, surrender all the lies, and let be seen what is left. Come courage, come love, come life, come my fair one, come Dominion, come kindness, come consequence, come faith. Walk through the fire and let all that was given become fuel; let the flames strip your flesh; you have lovely bones.

Though worlds are torn and scattered like fragments of tapestries, the spark remains, secret syllable, starlight, shining. Say CHIM all of you, and climb.

I mean:

Do you think that your muscles belong to you? Did they belong to you at your birth? Will they fade, given a month's idleness? Or your mind - drink half a bottle of wine, and speak to me then, wise ones among you. Are you fair of face? Stand in a fire, and then boast.

Choose now, choose wisely. Choose true strength, not false.

The hero must be love all through.

Courage is every virtue at the testing point.

I hope to see you soon.

Diamond sat quietly. She was thinking.

Where were her parents, her family who she had recklessly abandoned, in this reality, this universe?

Loranna looks up, having read Allie's letter aloud.

Cyndarius squinted through the incessant rain, watching from the hilltop as a company of his men moved around the far side of the castle, staying well out of archery range. Behind him, a deafening 'clunk' heralded the firing of a huge trebuchet, and the evening sky was temporarily lit by the flaming projectile, smoking blackly in the rain, as it arced toward the far tower and exploded.

"How long until the Azurite reinforcements arrive?" he asked Merey, who was standing by his side, drenched to the bone and shivering.

"Oh. Around fifteen to twenty hours, probably, according to the [censored] scouts"

"And the 95th is a day away, through the pass?"

"Last we heard. Assumin' nothing's [censored] changed."

Merey hesitated, grinding one foot in the mud, before he spoke again. "So, Sir, what do you think? You think the
Imperial City has really fallen to Azurites? I mean, the report could be wrong... couldn't it?"

Cyndarius turned and put a broad wet hand on his Lieutenant's shoulder. "Merey, it doesn't matter. All that matters is keeping these people safe for just a bit longer."

"Right, Sir, I know. It's just..."

Cyndarius clamped his shoulder even tighter. "Let's go get a bite to eat, try to dry off a bit."

Merey smiled. Cyndarius was right, of course.

They headed for the orange lights of Ald Raathim.

Diamond said what she had said all along. "If I am needed, I will go. If I am not, I shall stay. I feel it contingent on the others, for I fear I may be a liability in my current conditions."

She puzzled over Allerleirauh's words: Would they, three heroes as one, get three bodies or one?

She felt she would never know. A part of her was afraid to go.

A part of all of them must be.

Nalion turned towards Loranna and listened carefully, letting Allerleirauh's words seep into his mind.
"This is not my battle to fight.", he said. "There are others better suited for this task."
He dragged a chair to a table and sat down, facing the companions.

Diamond was noncommittal. "I'll be here when it's time to go, and if I go, I go."

Herwyn stood up from where he was sitting near Tris. He looked a bit shy, but entirely confident when he said, "I'll go, if you'll have me. I don't know exactly where we're going, but I've been to about the worst place imaginable, so I really don't care.

"And I suppose I am a battlemage, a Companion to the Queen. I have some small skill at magic and arms."

Posted by: Loranna Yesterday, 07:39 AM

Loranna frowns a bit at Diamond, saying "Dear ..." She bites her tongue, though.

At Herwyn's speech, she smiles. "Thank you," she says. "It will be a pleasure to be fighting with you this time, instead of against."

Anya watched the tavern. Her jaw clenched as she watched Slyvos, for a moment, lose some control. worry crossed her face, and despair as she was forced to just watch. She kept her mouth quiet, and eventually watched him calm down.

Then, she closed her fists, as the began to decide who would risk their lives to save them all. She squeazed her hands tight, and worked her jaw. Tears worked down her round cheeks, but she kept her face impassive, unemotional. Only her eyes showed the intensity of her turmoil.

Allania glanced at her, watching her charge learn the lesson forced on her. A lesson Anya wasn't sure she understood.

The stormy night sea had one more ship to deliver to the docks of Ald Raathim. A small fishing ship, with its single tiny sail in tatters, approached the docks. Powered primarily by three oars, it could barely make it through the rough seas. The fourth member of thi ship's crew was sitting on the sip's bow, his cloak blowing and flapping in the wind. The sea sprayed onto his face, and his clawed hand wiped the moisture off. He had't had anyhin to eat or drink in 3 days...but it mattered little to him. He could see the docks not fifty yards ahead of him. The ship pulled into the docks and he leaped onto them, sigaling for his three exhausted oarsmen to stay aboard and rest. They did so with eagerness. The figure on the docks was apporached by several soldiers and an officer of the legion, investigating the new ship...

The Wrothgarian Mountains, High Rock

Elysana, Queen of Wayrest, was in her hidden castle, the one she had last occupied while her old palace in the city was being torn down and the Dome was being constructed. It was no great pleasure to flee her city, but it was a hopeless situation, and she understood necessity. Retreat was a tactic, same as any other. So was the forging of new alliances, even with old enemies.

The Queen of Wayrest and her council produced their maps, and began their discussion with King of Orsinium, Gortwog gro-Nagorm.

Firewatch, Morrowind

The situation was growing more dangerous. The Azurites, concerned about the murders in the palace and the Silt Strider that had evidently been hijacked, were searching the citizens, interrogating them for information. They did not suspect any outsiders or an act of espionage by Tel Aedrin to the south – it simply seemed like the acts of a madman.

Still, Goranthir was kept busy, avoiding the guards, trying to glean any information about Barenziah and Tris – who must surely arrived in Firewatch a day ago – and their wherebouts and well-being. So far, his search had not turned up anything, which, though frustrating, was a good sign. Surely if the Queen Mother had been captured or killed, there would have been word of it in the streets.

Still, he kept searching, exhausted, for they might need help …

Outside Firewatch

A herde of wild guar made their way through the high steppes of north-eastern mainland Morrowind, following the tracks of the hijacked Silt Strider, as they had been told to. They did not move very fast, but they moved with resolution and purpose, as they had been told to.

Across the back of the largest guar, an enormous brute twice the size of his cousins and the terror of many a villager, the young Dunmer ranger slept. He did not know if this path would take him to Barenziah or Tris, but he knew it was the only clue he had to their wherebouts.

"Excuse me?" The tone Anya used, cause Allania to perk up.

"No." Anya repeated, it was more demand than pleading, "No more, release me."

"I'm sorry, but you know I can't do that."

"Fine." Anya turned towards the shade of her sister, "I shall."

A small smile spread across Allania's tight lips, "As much as I thoroughly love that you wish to act now, I simply cannot let you finish watching until this deed has come to an end." She flicked her wrist. Anya sudden;y dropped into a kneeling posistion.

Anya looked up, her face no longer impassive, but contorted with anger. "No! This is my body. My mind. Those are my friends, and I'll no longer watch them face their deaths. Now let me go!" Anya began to stand up, her face strained from exertion.

Allania adopted a worried look. Her eyes narrowed, and she redoubled her efforts to shackle Anya's mind.

Anya's body spasmed, her back arching as a gasp escaped her lips. The stress and pain of two wills trying to exert control caused her to be wracked in turmoil. Her face drained of color and her eyes stared out in hurt.

Goranthir had been dreaming of the world that never was. His grandmother clashing and forming alliances. Loranna as the Lady of Daruhn. The sky was clear of cloud and Twilight.

He was jostled awake by the sudden charge of the guar.

Still lying on his back, he was aware that a figure hung in the stormswept sky. Surely, he thought, the dream is continuing.

“Tris?” he said, sleepily, and then spoke to the guar, telling them to stop. This was a friend. “Have you found her?”

"I made my choice." Anya fumed. Her eyes burned with passion. "I cannot stand by... watching my friends through themselvs at death's door. I never knew why you picked me for this, but I do know I won't stand down." She took a step foward, her legs quivering under the stress.

"It will cost you more than you know... to do this, Anya." Allania, even in this world of her creating, began to tire, and stumbled under the pressure.

Anya spasmed and arched again. Her mouth utter a strange gurgle before settling down into lesser fits from the strain.

She felt that going with the group of eight, sealing the tear in the rift, she felt as if this was part of her purpose. She smiled.

Anya felt as if a spike had been driven in her skull as Allania performed one more act. She threw her head back and screamed a harsh, guttural cry. It was as if a whirlwind was envoloping her. Her clothes and armor shredded and her three scars shone white.

"Dear Anya... you're stronger than you know. I fear for you." Care and love flashed through Allania'sface, betraying the hurt she felt for doing this. Allania's shade, extremely weakened from the clash, faded and left Anya. Anya's vision flared bright white, and with a scream, she blacked out.

Anya spasmed one more time. A short scream escaped her lips this time. Her eyes rolled into the back of her head and she collapsed, limp and flaccid.

"Shaka is here too.", he said as he rose and made space for Shaka and Isidor.

"Practical as usual, are we, Isidor?", Nalion asked with a chuckle. "I see you will manage, if you would excuse me."
The Breton mage moved over to the party discussing the next plans and eyed Arynel for a short while, nodding to him.

QUOTE(Sheogorath @ Aug 21 2005, 04:08 PM)

“If my grandmother’s safe, I’m ready to go,” said Goranthir. “I got lucky on the way here … It will take at least a day for me to get back to Ald Raathim, assuming I don’t get caught ... Go on ahead: I'll be there as soon as I possibly can.”

*

"I can't leave you in the middle of Morrowind stranded in the snow," Tris cried. "Do they even have snow in the Summerset Isles?"

He realized, quite suddenly, that he was hysterical.

"Goran... I'll be back, if I can. It's a long way back and forth, even for me."

He hoped he didn't look as frightened as he felt. It was time. Time to go and do the job the General had sent him to do.

He put his arms around Goranthir, kissed him, whispered a string of power... and ran.

Anya took the mead and downed it in one drink. She layed her head down on Shaka and mulled over what her sister told her. Perception? Understanding? What was it I needed to percieve or understand?

She heard them mention that they were readying to go. She went to say she'd volunteer, but found no matter what she wanted to say, the words wouldn't form. She sighed angrily and just raised her hand.

"Anya, I'll explain later how we got into this alternate reality," said Shaka, knowing how foolish the words sounded. "Here's your armor and gear," he said, pulling the bag out of the corner of the room.

He was dismayed that she would volunteer so soon after a near-comatose state, but not surprised. The question was, would he volunteer?

"I'm not a coward," he muttered to himself. "I'll probably always look like one to Tris and the others. I'm just ... one lizard, with a spear."

"Goranthir's not going to make it," Tris said, appearing in the doorway. "He's in the middle of nowhere, near Firewatch. I have a letter for everyone, a letter from the General."

He pulled it out of his pocked, unfolded it, and read:

"Come to me like an arrow shot from a string... you will find your guide in the sphere of Dibella. Be kind to all you meet and you may receive blessings; be wary, and above all, do not step off the path."

Anya knew what had happened. She had watched the whole thing. But she knew that none of the others knew that she had watched them, and let it drop.

What Shaka didn't know was that she was close enough to hear him say that last part. She punch him hard in his shoulder and just frowned at him.

Isidor fastened his black cloak, and strapped his axe firmly to his back. His armor wasn't in the best condition, after getting two swords shoved through it by Kethiah. He drank another mead from the bar, and smiled. "Ready." He said.

Loranna looks disappointed for a second, but shakes it off. "All right then," she says, turning to the others.

"Cyndarius, Merey - good luck, while we do this. Everyone ..."

She smiles. "I could never hope to have such friends in my wildest dreams; let us go."

She reaches over to squeeze Slyvos's hand, nodding to him. "Remember, past aside, you're a hero, just like us all."

He smiled, listening to the sounds of battle outside. "Looks like it wasn't meant for us to have time to do that,

"Luckily, it doesn't matter.

"Look at this siege, for instance. Jazbet up in that castle... sorry, Loranna... knows exactly what I'm going to do before we do it. Does that matter? Will he win? No, of course not.

"It's not what plan you have, it's who you are. It's not tactics that win a fight, it's heart.

"You people have plenty of heart."

He smiled again, broadly and warmly.

"I know that I, for one, won't be too worried while I wait on you."

Shaka stood. "I may stay here and try to defend the town while you're gone. I just wanted to quote something that Vivec wrote:

' And Azura left us alone, in darkness, and we were all afraid, but we put on brave faces, and went forth from Red Mountain to build the new world of our dreams. '

"I will pray for the Eight. Anyone who needs the Spear of Bitter Mercy or my cuirass may take it now. I'd like them back, if we all survive this."

"We have our Eight then?" Tris asked. "Loranna, Reichi, Herwyn Brand, Isidor, Luxi, Diamond, Anya, Slyvos?"

He looked at all of the tense faces.

"There's something I wanted to say before you went. There are only eight of you, against... everything. But look at this world, and the world we belong in, look at the difference. All of this is because one man died. One man, and not a man who's a king or a great Battlemage or a dragon in human form, just a decent man from High Rock with the heart of a hero. Heroes are important. Don't forget that.

"Now: I won't be able to fight with you, but I won't ever be far. If you need to know something, I can carry your words to the General and Master Solin, and I can carry messages from here."

"Take this to Allerleirauh and Solin as safely and as fast as possible. All that was, all that is and all that will be rests now on your shoulders. Come through for us!", Nalion nodded and handed the case to Loranna. "It's now or never. Take my blessings with you. Now go."

Goranthir’s tears felt like ice on his face as he ran westward. The guar were too slow. There was nothing here that would move faster than he could on his feet, at least nothing that answered his summons.

“It’s happening now, and I’m not going to be there,” he hissed angrily to himself. What made him angrier still: the knowledge that if he had to do it again, he would still leave to make sure that Tris and Barenziah were all right. The good of the few over the good of the many. Real smart, kid.

“This blade was forged twice, it was made and then broken, and likewise made anew,” the Breton began. “It was made first by myself, a model of the wheel, and by that image also a tower. After being broken the shards were used on Hogithum and each lay then dormant until I gathered them up to have the sword remade, not by my own hand, but by the first Emperor of the modern age, Tiber Septim. By his own hand was this sword crafted, in accordance to his own dream, the dream of an empire. It becomes now an image of the world structure, solid in a place where there is no longer any sure foundation. It shall be the bridge of heroes, as it was a hero who made it, and along its length only heroes dare go.”

A lump in her throat, Diamond looked around at the people surrounding her, feeling a sudden attachment to these heroes who she had known only for a few weeks.

Shai muttered something towards Diamond, and she agreed. Shai threw herself at Teleran and hugged him, leaving him with a small peck on the cheek before standing behind Loranna.

Marein's old Daedric Dagger, which had seen him through Gemin, the Dawn and through months of experiments without breaking, was strapped on his side. Diamond was bringing a simple brush, though she didn't know the purpose it would serve.

Shai had brought nothing.

The three of them together had the crown that was so much a part of their stories.

Again Arynel swung his sword as if to strike the sky and as if suddenly solid the sky became struck and the sword held, as if embedded in flesh, for this was the arena, where peace was forged on an anvil of fire and blood.

The sword became an archway ascending the heavens, thin as a knife and edged likewise – as a razor, for to walk this path was to forego all hope. At the first, where the end touched against the ground, there arose eight fiery swords, spinning about every which way. Beyond that entrance gate the length of the road was shrouded by swirling shadow, fingers of icy death reaching out to drag whoever dared travel along this way into destruction.

The Breton bowed, and stepped aside.

Up the side of the mountain coiled something golden, something shining, something that didn't seem to be made out of stone. The dragon's head was far above them, lost in the clouds; the tail dropped beneath the level of what they could see, into an endless misty gorge.

The landscape hummed, like a heartbeat.

The land closest to the bridge was deceptively ordinary, rough barren ground. Things moved on it, dragon-like beasts, winged, but larger than elephants. Wyverns, and drakes, and lesser dragons... in all directions they wandered, seemingly intent on their own business.

Anya winced as she entered, her face showing the immense pain. It felt the same as when she was just fighting to regain control of her own mind against her sister.

Anya shared Luxi's awe with the mythical beasts that passed. She offered a moment to look at them before turning back to the path.

Shrugging at Herwyn's remark, she continued to walk, following him. She readied her spear, wary of suprises. This isn't what Allania showed me...

Back in the Drunken Guar, Shaka was quiet as he weighed Cyndarius' words. This alternate world was in more trouble than they had dreamed.

"I want to help transport the wounded as well," he said. "I don't think we should leave anyone behind."

"How will we get out of Ald Raathim? I've heard our ships have been destroyed or captured."

"Shaka," Cyndarius said, his features like a golden mask in the light of the fire, "I've never left a man behind. We aren't going to start now."

His expression softened a bit.

"We're going overland, through Skyrim. We'll meet with the 95th, they should be in Rift Pass by now, and head South from there."

Tris appeared beside the group. He wasn't standing on the bridge, but then again, he wasn't standing on the ground either. He was floating. And he looked a little different, although it was difficult at first to say how. The scar on his face was gone, for one thing; and he looked cleaner than any of the crowd at Ald Raathim had been for days, for another thing.

"Everyone made it," he said. "I'll go and tell the General you're on your way."

Loranna's eyes were still somewhat dazzled by the sheer spectacle of the dragons around them; never would she have hoped to see even one dragon, let alone so many at once ...

"Thank you Tris," she says, bringing her attention back to the path. "This ... this place ..." She couldn't quite find the words.

Dane Rubyn, the 37 year old legionnaire, stared into the mist, his mind still swirling in confusion. He still had no idea what had happened to him, and what the hell was going on in general. The snow, the Azurites, nothing was making any sense. To him, at least. Everybody else had shown no signs of confusion in the least. The only emotion shown was sorrow and shock for their lost General, General Klemenis. Perhaps he would find answers at Ald Raathim, perhaps not. He only hoped that something or somebody would end up making everything clear.

The ground wasn't what Isidor expected. It was harder than the steel and sharper than the sword; it made him feel as if he were made of dust or paste. His foot felt as if he had simultaneously smashed the sole with a hammer and set it on fire.

Two dragons nearby were playing with a ball. One of them would knock it to the other with a massive wedge-shaped head, and the other would rear back on his hindquarters and bat it back. Now they came galloping towards the sword bridge like a pair of oversized puppies - oversized puppies with wings, who breathed black smoke.

The officer approached the figure, it was dark, and hard to tell much about his face. What was obvious was that he was an argonian wearing netch leather and a cloak. Good evening, "My name is Hulayn. Might I ask what port that I am in is called?"

Diamond did her best to kneel before the dragons without falling off the bridge; the result was a half-twisting kneel position, but the message seemed straightforward.

"That may well be our best effort, noble Dragons. I apologize on behalf of my companion, here...he is foolish by birth, and had no intention of causing your ball to drop. He is very sorry...

"Your Majesties, honorable Dragon beings, inhabitants of this noble sphere," she said, laying it on a bit thick in her nervousness but still drawing on her past, "We are here to do nothing but rectify that which has been wronged...other mortals - " she left out the part about Tris being a friend of theirs " - have tampered with things not their own, and damage has been done. We seek only to prevent further damage from happening, lest Nirn and all spheres be affected, even terminally. Surely, Your Majesties, you wish for the spheres to remain intact?

The passion returned to her voice. "The quest we have embarked upon is one upon which much is resting. This path, this bridge, has been laid out for us, and we feel we must follow it for the sake of all mortals, living and dead, and indeed nonmortals too. If you allow us to continue on our way, it will be for all of our benefits."

QUOTE(Tri @ Aug 21 2005, 07:47 PM)

She allowed her voice to quiver. "Please. I - we - beseech you..."

"A courteous reply, at last.

"What has fallen cannot unfall, silly mortal creatures,"
the Dragon said.

"Not even we can lift our ball now that it has fallen.

"The winged ones from the realm of Kynareth tell us the sky is broken. If you are to fix it, you will need help."

The other dragon - perhaps they were mates, for one seemed smaller and more graceful than the other - rolled the golden ball towards the bridge with its snout.

"Your armor is torn, wolfling. Take this instead."

He was speaking to Reichi. The golden ball melted, and ran into a new form; golden armor, light, and beautifully wrought.
